Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spoiler

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

It was pretty much by random chance that I got into the show, too. I just happened to catch the season two premiere and liked it so much that I went out and burned through all of S1 in a marathon before the next episode. :D

And the CW still doesn't really promote the show, no. For one thing, it's not "their" kind of show, and honestly, I don't think they really know how to promote it anyway.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Like I said, Dawn Ostroff has no clue as to why Supernatural is so popular. She think it's the handsome leads and has no clue as to how it could be anything else. I'm sure she's mystified as to why any straight guys would want to watch. She doesn't understand the great off the wall humor, the camaraderie between characters, the fun of the urban legends and the mytharc. She doesn't get it. She's been quoted as saying that she doesn't understand the popularity. Ostroff and the CW is committed to the teen soap formula. The Vampire Diaries is going to be all teen angst. Hell, the network is probably thinking Jensen Ackles is too old for their demo at the ripe old age of 31.

Living TV in the UK was thrilled to get the show for broadcast when ITV2 failed to pick it up. Living acquired exclusive rights to any potential sixth season and it's showing the entire series this fall to get its viewers caught up. It's cranked out promos really quickly. Here's its first: (the promo voices sound slightly altered because it was converted from a UK PAL format which runs at slightly more frames per second, but the actual broadcast will sound normal).

Living TV promo

Early season one was easily the weakest part of the series storyline wise, and Living has managed to make it look intriguing. Better promo than anythign the CW ever came up with. Remember that horrible "Girls of Thursday night" promo the CW did for season three about Ruby and Bela and Kara from Smallville? Showed clips of them "showing up those boys." That's the CW mindset.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Okay, I'm watching the double feature on the CW tonight -- Jump the Shark and The Rapture. Is watching all these random episodes going to spoil anything major for me?

Also, if I do decide to watch this series, I may have to wait a while since only seasons three and four are on Blu-ray.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Next week is the two part season finale. That may spoil a thing or two. ;) Can't a regular format disc play on a BLU-ray machine? They're all available on bestbuy and at amazon and Walmart.com. After seeing the new preview set to "O Death" I can't wait.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Why would I want to watch a regular DVD when Blu-ray is available? :p

Also, I don't rent.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

I don't know how long it's going to take Warners to put seasons 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray. You may be in for a long wait and miss the ghoulish fun of season 5.

Oh well, there's always Smallville. I hear Clark and Lois' romance will be heating up. :p

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

The only Smallville episodes I like are the ones where at 8:45 p.m., Clark punches the bad guy once and ends the threat. Then the bad guy is apparently taken into custody by mere mortals without a fight and doesn't rat on Clark's secret. Then for the final act of the show Clark pines and has a lot of angst.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Unfortunately, most currently running shows aren't fully out on Blu Ray (though there are a few).

Oh and as to your question why would I want to watch a DVD when blu ray is available? Well it doesn't apply as they aren't available in blu ray.

Currently there are no legal or illegal copies of Supernatural season 1 or 2 on blu ray (or similar format).

Though I do agree that on the choice of format I love HD. And really hope that Warners does add more seasons on Blu Ray.

Actually pleasantly surprised by not only the quality of that preview but that they actually paid someone for a new song (instead of just hashing something together). It does seem like the CW is giving a slight more to Supernatural this year (not much but a little) and it also seems like all the previews have been geared to the audience itself, instead of to the CW broad demographic.

Its sort of double edged sword. Do good in the ratings (and seasons 2 & 3 we really didn't besides total viewers even the 18-49 was one of the weaker ones the CW had for shows renewed), do better and get an occasional pat on the back and $50 dollars spent on you.

But do better and absolutely they are gonna want to keep you around.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

I thank the maker the J's are only signed for 6 seasons. I'm still very, very leery of a season six and think it's a horrible idea. Think how bad Smallville was by its sixth season. Did the CW spend the money to hire Jen Titus to sing "O Death" for them, or was it Warners? The fact that the preview is geared to SPN's real audience is what makes me wonder. You can download it for free from the CW Source site BTW. I can't imagine the CW spending a dime if it didn't have to spend it. Its future is riding on Melrose Place and the teen angst of the Vampire Diaries, which I predict will perform mildly well, but not be the break out hit it craves. The CW doesn't have any money. I keep wondering when CBS and Warners will pull the plug.

Heh. Some LJ reports of Paris' time on set are already out. According to them, she was whiny because she's a chain smoker and couldn't get breaks to smoke, but otherwise behaved herself.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Well I hate to use the Smallville comparison because lets face it sure its season 6 sucked, but did you really like its season 4 or 5 that much? Sure they do produce an occasional episode I do like (since I usually have that channel on just so I don't miss SN), hell same for shows like the X-Files where I think they peaked in season 2 & 3.

Am I worried the quality will go down? Of course, but I am worry about that for this season as well (something I do for every season).

As for the CW they are still bleeding money (and both Warners and CBS expected them to be in the green this last season with their original plans). Its the one reason I am glad that Kripke and company are ending the Lucifer arc this year, because my biggest fear (easily) wasn't them getting a sixth season, or Kripke deciding to leave (which I still think he well stay, but who knows), it was fear that the CW will fold and we would never get any real closure to the arc and the characters.

Now it is possible that (depending on how bad the lineup as a a whole performs) that the CW could fold mid season, and it is something I do actually worry about. But it is more likely to fold in between seasons, and while the producers might film all of season 5 and not know until after at least the arc would be complete, even if we don't end the characters at a place that Eric would like to end the show at.

Well at least our ratings so far are doing well (depending on the Awards show on Sunday) Supernatural could end up having three weeks (to date) of having the number 1 and 2 show. And I have checked thats never happened for the CW. And we should get a nice audience for its premiere (though NFL football does official start that Thursday with two games, hopefully they are games that have exclusive broadcast rights with ESPN), but by the next week almost everyone else is starting a week early, but hopefully the one week will give us a good sized audience. I would love to see us actually hit 4 million.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

If Melrose Place is a hit, the CW will have to cancel Supernatural in order to make room for Models, Inc.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

are they still filming this in Vancouver?

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Yes, they still film in Vancouver, indranee. Supposedly it's cheaper.

I hear your fear, mswood, but I'd be most surprised to see the CW fold in the middle of a season. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see it fold in summer of 2010 if the new shows tank like they've been tanking. I expect the Vampire Diaries to taper off fairly quickly. Even some of the online teeny boppers are saying it's kind of insipid. Yeah, Smallville wasn't the greatest before season 6. I've never been that impressed with it, but the first two seasons were good. I'll concede that much.

Aragorn, bite your tongue, young man. I don't want to have to curse you.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

thanks Dorian!

tbh, I started watching it 'cos of Jensen, but Jared's been filling out quite well lately so it's two for the price of one now :p

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

Yes. Yes, Jared has filled out quite nicely from the gawky boy with the god awful bangs from season one.

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

So I've only watched a few scattered episodes here and there -- maybe a handful total -- so I'm not necessarily familiar with the major arcs, but it seems to be like this show is the anti-CW, the anti-Smallville. I'm surprised it's still on that network. If Melrose Place is a hit, I fully expect them to start bringing back Dallas, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing and who knows what else.

I certainly wouldn't mind if they brought Moonlight back. Given the current vampire craze, it'd be the perfect time for a great revival!

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

So I'm watching some more Supernatural tonight and probably spoiling myself, and thus preventing myself from wanting to watch this show from start to finish, but I have to ask... does this show have the same issue with concussions as Smallville does?

Re: Supernatural five minute preview clip from comic con--slightly spo

THe boys do get injured a lot, but since for the most part the damage is from beings far, far less physically powerful then the villains on Smallville, its much more reasonable that the characters aren't dead (though of course both have been dead).

Probably the humor of the lana concussion list is closest to the number of times a supernatural being is shown strangling Sam.

We do see them have to on at least a few occasions deal with their wounds and see scars and damage from it in other episodes (or casts).
