Supernatural 7x22 "There Will Be Blood" spoiler discussion thread

It would have been up against Fringe and Grimm had it stayed in the Friday time-slot. The Wednesday time-slot, on the other hand, has no fantasy, horror, or sci-fi competition.

And that says it all about the CW as a network. Its eight year old show is its strongest. Not even Sarah Michelle Gellar can create a buzz on Monday nights. You just can't create another broadcast network and expect broadcast network ratings. Not in the television landscape today. It can't be done. SPN is still on the air because it's produced by Warner, one of the studies involved in the network. That's revenue from overseas market sales, DVD sales, etc etc......

It's longest-running show would be expected to pull in high ratings. That's why the show is kept around so long.

As for whether or not you can create a broadcast network and expect broadcast ratings: the WB was doing just fine, and the WB transfers (Supernatural, One Tree Hill) were doing just fine on the CW. It seems to me that the problem has mainly to do with the fact that the merged UPN/WB took on the executives from UPN rather than the WB. CW executives made poor choices regarding new programming, and the network has suffered as a result.

The point, that you missed, is that CW doesn't need broadcast network level ratings

I really don't want Supernatural to run like Smallville did, well past its prime and far too long :(
