Supernatural 6x18"Frontierland" spoiler discussion thread

the other issue is one that earlier this season I had with Dean, and thats people just discounting their experience and them not just laying out exactly what they have done. This time its Sam with Colt, and really I wouldn't jsut stare him down I would put the man in his place. Dude took out some of the most powerful demons that have ever roamed the earth and kill a horseman, has faced and overcome Lucifer and shoved him back into his cage. Yeah I wouldn't take anything from Colt.
You really think that Sam bragging about his exploits would have had any effect on Colt, especially without any proof whatsoever that any of it was true? And on top of that, you have to consider all of the legendary feats he's done, too. The man not only built the single most powerful hunter weapon in existence, but he designed and built a Devil's trap that could contain Lilith and the whole of Hell itself.

The fact that he got Colt to hand over his gun at all says a lot about the way Sam handled himself as is. And he clearly left a big enough impression for Colt to do what he did at the end.

I seriously doubt Sam boasting about ending the Apocalypse or taking on the Horsemen would have helped one iota. Quite the opposite in fact.

You also have to keep in mind that it might not be a good idea for Sam to be blabbing about all the things that are going to be happening in the future. Samuel Colt, after all, had something to do with setting some of that in motion.

I loved this episode. It was fun seeing Dean's John Wayne western world collapse into stark reality and that it was actually Sam who fit in more easily. You had a sympathetic bad guy who only came after Dean because he was threatened. Any episode with Bobby is always a plus for me. And Castiel is tapping into the dark side to win his war. And he's losing the support of his fellow angels. Good stuff!
I liked the posse jokes and that fat old guy that was always sleeping on the table in the saloon.

I thought this was a pretty good episode, moved along well, kept my interest and was funny. It felt a little awkward killing the phoenix after his background story was revealed, at least there wasn't that "fist pump" feeling after he was dispatched.

^ Interesting observation about Sam as the disappearing hunter!!

I went into this epsiode without a lot of expectation since I usually don't like Western-themed episodes (e.g. : "Spectre of the Gun," "A Fistful of datas," "North Star"). But this one surprised me because it WAS more like a ripoff of of Star Trek IV. Go back in time. Find the critter. Bring it back to help today's problem. For me, it was a comedy of two people being "fish out of the water" in the Old West like Kirk and Co. in ST IV. :techman:
I too went into this episode as mostly a "filler episode" mentality. BUT I ended laughing my head off in all the enjoyable moments of it, AND absolutely LOVED the ending!

My favorite moments were:
1.) "We'll Star Trek IV this BITCH!"....absolutely!!
2.) "Eastwood, Marshall Clint Eastwood,...and this here is Walker,...he's a Texas Ranger."....:guffaw:
3.) Posse?..."I LOVE posse....could say I am a posse lover"...
And the bet with the "special delivery"...

Oh, that's right, she did. I was so deeply touched by the way Jim Beaver wrote about her in his book with all his emails and memories about the period of time when his wife was dying of her illness. He is a deeply intelligent, thoughtful and compassionate individual.

IDK,..I felt Dean was torn after hearing his/its sad story...As he said something like..."I don't care he's a dick and a coward...but I know what you are."
Dean has been taught what "supernatural" beings are evil and nothing so far has changed his "perception" of what he was taught. Doesn't mean he enjoys it,...he thinks it's his "job" to eradicate it.

I get that but it affected *my* perception of it.

Not mine,...How easy it was of "The Pheonix" to start murdering yet again, along with the fact that "Hunters" of the 19th Century knew what it was, was reason enough for Dean to come back to his "beliefs"

I thought this was a fun, good but not great episode. Pretty in keeping with my overall feeling for the season. I did love the part when the Phoenix grabbed the gun and shot the deputy in the cell and Dean said, "I should have seen that coming."

If the A-story was the back-in-time stuff, then I found the B-story, with Castiel's possibly questionable war and tactics a lot more interesting.

I'm a lot less critical about this show than I am of many others I watch and I think it all comes down to one thing: Jensen Ackles always cracks me up.

Regarding Dean's misconception of the wild west, I don't buy some of it. We're way past the glorified, romanticized western after movies like Unforgiven and Open Range.

Diseased prostitutes, near-empty saloons and The Man With No Name wearing a blanket is one thing, but there's no way Dean would've bought clothes from that tacky western outfitter thinking they were authentic. I realize it was strictly a sight gag, but still, not even westerns like Young Guns or Texas Rangers dressed up like that. Dean's supposed to be the film buff.

While I don't mean that Sam should list out every single thing he has done, certainly a few things here and there, such as don't worry about the colt being a curse, I' ve been using it for years would go a long way into making his point (which is also back up with having his journal).

Captain Mike

Dean's world isn't all black and white when it comes to the supernatural, but it is a natural reaction, SPN is bad. But he has been shown that he can look at individual situations, and make judgment calls.

But this is usually only done by Supernatural things that don't kill humans (even if they have what he might feel is justifiable reasons).

It was a roaring rampage of revenge. It's not like he killed any innocent person. Dean and Sam have arguably done worse. No, wait, they've certainly done worse. They could have exorcised Bradley, but they chose to kill him because Sam wanted revenge on the demon that was possessing him. At least the Phoenix didn't cause any collateral deaths.

In this case, it was the ashes that were important. He might have been the only phoenix anywhere, and finding another would be difficult even if he weren't.

Killing the phoenix was an unfortunate necessity, akin to draining gallons of blood from a few helpless demon-possessed people while they're begging for their lives because Sam needs to tank up.

Dean's gotten used to unfortunate necessities.

Though I do think an angel needs to be involved with it, if Samuel was indeed in heaven as I have a huge problem with one a Demon being able to free someone from Heaven, and also have a problem with a Demon being able to get in an out of the cage, since both Lilith (the original demon) wasn't able to, nor was Azazel, both who ruled hell at different times.

There is a difference between a human soul and an angel, though. A cage designed to hold one might not be able to easily hold the other.

Look at it this way, if you designed a cage to hold Godzilla a human might be able to pass between the bars without difficulty. Size matters.

Yeah but Crowley couldn't even get Sam's soul (which based on all visual evidence is even smaller). So that sort of negates the size aspect.

As for Brady, they are in war, exorcism doesn't kill demons just sends them back to hell, and clearly that doesn't hold demons back for long as we have had several demons who have been exorcised. At that point in time they had two means of killing a demon. The knife (and has to be a lethal blow to kill the demon which is also lethal to the human) or Sam drinking his blood and using his mind to kill the demon (on this we have yet to see Sam use that full level on a demon where we know that the host does indeed live afterwords, probably but we can't state as fact).

No to mention that Brady was possessed for at least 6 years, how much damage would have been done over those years? Could the host already received mortal wounds? Well if not, Crowley bashing his skull twelve times hard with a tire iron should have killed the host.

Well, there is also the issue of getting it out without being killed by two very annoyed archangels. For crowley, it would have been a sneaking mission. Being noticed would have certain death.

Death, on the other hand, could have just bitch-slapped both of them and snatched Sam's soul out of their hands. .
