It's here, good people. The Western. Samuel Colt. Awesomeness, and the advance word (at least from the press screening from Mo Ryan and whatshisname at TV Guide) is most gushing and enthusiastic. :techman: I can't wait.

Me neither. We've all been waiting for this episode for quite some time. Didn't think time travel would be used though. I'd figure it was going to be a flashback episode with Jensen or Jared dressed as a cowboy with a thick moustache ala Back to the Future 3. But that would be totally cheesy huh?

This looks like it's going to be great. Supernatural always does good time travel/AU episodes. :techman:

:guffaw::guffaw:

Some actual authenticity to how prostitutes might have looked. She didn't even have veneers or look like Catherine Zeta Jones. :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

So--will Dorian have to abandon the house due to the tornadoes 10 miles south that may or may not be coming this way? If you don't hear from me after the episode, I had to bug out. I just wish it would freaking RAIN. Once again, eastern Oklahoma is soaked and parched Oklahoma City isn't getting a drop. 80 percent chance of rain yesterday. Not a drop.

Remember if you have to choose between Dean and Sam and Twisters, well it was nice knowing you.

Just kidding. Hopefully they'll miss you.

Wow. :eek: Not what I expected at all. Loved it, but WHAT.IS. CASTIEL. UP. TO? :wtf: He murdered his lieutenant when she questioned him. Seriously dangerous territory, Cas. :cardie:

I loved that ending. So, did Colt get the gun back from the bartender named Elkins? Hint, hint....and leave it to him and his progeny.....?

I'm a posse magnet. :devil: And.....those are tornado sirens. Gotta get my dog and bug out, good people.

I don't know what those early reviewers saw in this. I thought it was pretty standard fare for this type of show and the writers didn't do anything particularly new or exciting or compelling with it. Nasty hooker at the saloon check. a hanging check. a showdown at high noon check.

The show has a bad habit these days of putting in pop culture references that are jarring like Star Trek 4 or DS9 but it did remind me that TNG's "Fistful of Datas" and ENT's "North Star" were more original and entertaining homages than SN's--nothing can top Brent Spiner in drag:rommie:. Or Back to the Furture III

I had expected it to be a classic but it was rather underwhelming. Colt barely had a role. The jokes didn't really work or were obvious--Sam steps in horsehit, Dean calls himself Clint Eastwood, Dean gets made fun of because of his outfit--. The supernatural creature was ho-hum. It wasn't creepy there was little atmosphere created. Rachel was a plot device. This felt like it was just hurriedly going through the motions like the writers knew it too. All in all a pretty thin hour when all is said and done.

It wasn't bad--it was certainly watchable but not as great as it should have been. C.

Good luck, Dorian.

Interesting note: when John told Sam and Dean the legend of the Colt, he said Samuel Colt gave the gun to a Hunter, who used six of the original thirteen bullets before disappearing, along with the Colt. Looks like that Hunter was actually Sam, though the legend understandably got a little muddled over a hundred and fifty years.

I'm back. I live. I'm on the Oklahoma County/Cleveland County line. It was their sirens I heard. There was a lowering but no tornado on the ground. The storm that was supposed to move into the metro is all shifting up northeast. Damn. Oklahoma City is desperate for rain. It hasn't gotten a drop in 2 months. Again, eastern OK will be soaked. I hope the folks at Busch Stadium in St. Louis didn't get blown away. A tornado hit right around there.

As for the episode, I can't agree with startrekwatcher. What was revealed and hinted at with Cas was the main story. So--it was Cas who brought up and brought down Sam and Samuel respectively. It had to be. He's a soul dealer, more or less. I hope he didn't damage Bobby's soul. Or steal it. Human souls are protein bars and carbs for angels, I guess.

So, the bartender was Elkins' great grandfather? Is that how Elkins ended up with the Colt? Samuel and the bartender met up in town later on? Did anyone else feel sorry for the phoenix? What was he doing that was so bad? Before killing the sheriff? :lol: The actors who played the phoenix and Colt were great. I love that he referred to Sam as a "giant from the future." People weren't as tall then. A 6 feet six inch Sam would seem gigantic to them.

Posse magnet. :devil::guffaw:

^ Interesting observation about Sam as the disappearing hunter!!

I went into this epsiode without a lot of expectation since I usually don't like Western-themed episodes (e.g. : "Spectre of the Gun," "A Fistful of datas," "North Star"). But this one surprised me because it WAS more like a ripoff of of Star Trek IV. Go back in time. Find the critter. Bring it back to help today's problem. For me, it was a comedy of two people being "fish out of the water" in the Old West like Kirk and Co. in ST IV. :techman:

"You know me, I'm a posse magnet. I love posse." <adolescent grin>

Hahaha.

I enjoyed the episode, though I kind of wish it was a two-parter so we could have delved more into the setting as well as the phoenix's story. But c'est la vie. Regarding Castiel, though, I think its pretty clear that he's grabbing up souls however he can (hence why he wanted the Titanic saved) in order to fuel his war machine. Might even have made a deal with the new head hancho in Hell in order to burn those souls rather than the ones in Heaven, since I don't think he's quite that callous yet. Dealing with a devil and use souls as fuel would certainly gain the ire of his allies though.

I don't think Castiel (who I have no problem pointing out his faults) was the one who freed Sam and Samuel.

Castiel needed time for the events to change his moral stance. Sam was freed almost immediately.

What I think is more likely is that he was losing the war, so what Belthazar was doing and realized that was the way he could win.

I think thats much more likely.

Though I do think an angel needs to be involved with it, if Samuel was indeed in heaven as I have a huge problem with one a Demon being able to free someone from Heaven, and also have a problem with a Demon being able to get in an out of the cage, since both Lilith (the original demon) wasn't able to, nor was Azazel, both who ruled hell at different times.

Really I only had a couple problems with this episode. One was I thought Dean and the hat at the end (especially at that moment) was really out of character. Most of the earlier stuff didn't bother me. I also generally don't mind the tv/ movie references as Dean watching a ton of them, and lets face it with his life being mostly either working and waiting in a hotel, that really is a huge part of your down time.

the other issue is one that earlier this season I had with Dean, and thats people just discounting their experience and them not just laying out exactly what they have done. This time its Sam with Colt, and really I wouldn't jsut stare him down I would put the man in his place. Dude took out some of the most powerful demons that have ever roamed the earth and kill a horseman, has faced and overcome Lucifer and shoved him back into his cage. Yeah I wouldn't take anything from Colt.

Awesome episode. Probably the best ep of the season! :techman:

The story was great along with the production, the western town looked good. I thought the Phoenix was played by a decent actor and we even got some backstory. I liked the actor that played Samuel Colt and there was plenty of nice humor from Dean. Nice nod to BTTF2 at the very end with the delivery boy.

It'll be interesting to see how this Cas storyline plays out.

Also Bobby only watches Deep Space Nine! :D
