Supernatural 6x01 "Exile on Main Street" discussion/spoilerish

The brothers are back Friday evening at 9/8c. For someone's who's been as trepidatious as I am about a season six, new showrunner Sera Gamble's first inklings of smaller and more intimate seem to be working well.

Mitch Pileggi guest stars again. :) The first preview snippet looked awesome, but I'm hesitant to post it because it's got a huge spoiler in it.

I haven't watched any previews and I've shied away from major spoilers. All I know is Mitch Pileggi is back in some fashion, and that the season will be smaller and more focused on the Winchesters' family.

Part of me wishes Kripke and the rest of the team could have finished the show with season five, as they'd always intended, but part of me is glad to see the show back, too. I'm cautiously optimistic about this season. :techman:

I've been thinking lately that "Exile on Main Street" would make a cool episode title for any show, and lo and behold, someone actually used it.

I'm so excited about the premiere tonight. I'm glad the Apocalypse arc is over and we're getting something more smaller in scale. It's hard to top the (near) end of the world.

It will be nice if they return to the American folk tales and urban legends approach of the first couple of Seasons; that's why I originally started watching and it would make a nice bookend to close the show.

I'm a bit worried about what will happen to Dean's new family, though. :(

I'm feeling pretty much the same as already mentioned... cautiously optimistic. The previews seem exciting.

About the stories for this Season or the fate of Dean's family? :D

Well as long as they are killed in an entirely gross and disgusting manner I will be happy.

Kidding (well a little). Sorry one of my pet peeves isn't that they want to explore Dean as a family man, it's that they picked someone who at best was a one night hook up. It just makes it impossible to believe that aspect of the story.

I would much rather they used Cassie (and recast the role) sense that was a person he actually loved and wasn't just bendable.

The only part I am hesitant about is Samuel. And how he fits into this arc. But so far I have really, really enjoyed the couple of scenes released. But beyond that I am really spoiler free.

Yeah but for the show (previous to the last to episodes of season 5) it wasn't her.

I understand why the producers brought her character back, but on a purely character based world view it doesn't work.

She was the last person we saw Dean connect with at all, the actress and Jensen had some Chemistry (how the actress that played Cassie and Jensen didn't have chemistry is beyond me. Jensen has chemistry with pet rocks....). And of course since she has a child, it plays into the whole family aspect they want to explore.

For the writers it makes sense. Internally for the story it doesn't. But its hardly the first time the writers have had to do something like this.

Okay, my HD feed is definitely HD, but in 4:3. I've never watched Supernatural on broadcast TV before. Is this normal?

No that isn't normal. But in my area our carrier is the secondary HD channel of NBC (go figure) and they broadcast the standard definition version over the HD signal. Oh let me count the ways I hate them.

I ended up not liking that episode. I devoured all 100+ episodes this year, and this is one of the worst. We'll see how this goes...
