Supermoon?

What Neil Degrasse Tyson twittered about the "SuperMoon"

“Full moon at “perigee” Saturday. 14% larger than when at “apogee”. No biggie. Same difference between an 8 and a 7-inch pizza”

and

“Images of huge Moons over trees & buildings used extreme zoom. Try with non-zooming camera — the Moon’s barely visible.

I saw a brighter moon last night but I didn't know the difference in size. Was this basically the moon is closer in view than it originally is and that's why it might look bigger?

Meh. Not anything special. They're not rare occurrences. They occur once about every 14 months. And the term "Supermoon" isn't even an astronomical term. It was coined by an astrologer to hype his superstitious nonsense. The correct term would be a 'perigee full moon' or 'perigee-syzygy'. You won't be able to see anything of significance.

It was definitely brighter than normal the other night, but otherwise nothing terribly special. There are other times of the year when the moon looks way bigger.
