"Superman Returns' still to get a sequel?

Singer deserves a second shot at Superman. I believe in his talent and ability.

I certainly don't think the Wachowskis or Frank Miller could do a better job! In fact, I'm still hard-pressed to imagine anyone doing a better job.

Routh was excellent in SR -- even though I DID NOT like the story and the choice of bringing back Luthor.

Lois Lane needs to be recast though!

Superman Unleashed needs much more action and a better villain. I'd only reboot the Lois story thread. Pretend like the kid and the boyfriend never existed.

Like I said before, I wouldn't mind a soft reboot of the storyline since I'm honestly not sure what else they'd do with Jason Lane. (But who knows? Maybe Bryan Singer & co. will surprise me.) But on the other side of the coin, I loved James Marsden as Richard White and I wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

Who would we want as the new Lois Lane? I thought Kate Bosworth was good as a fairly straight Lois Lane but I'll admit she wasn't as much fun as madwoman Margot Kidder.

And while I'd support a Superman Returns sequel (or at least a 2nd shot for Brandon Routh), I'd also be in favor of a movie using the Smallville cast assuming they don't let Lana Lang get within 50 yards of the studio.

I would love to see Metallo/John Corbin, Imperiex and Bizarro in a Superman movie.

NeverGonnaHappen.

In all honesty, out of all the half baked ideas thrown around for more than a decade(polar bears FBI Agent Luthor Ty-Zor Suit in a can), his take on Superman was the best choice.

Just about anyone other than Lex at this point. I *might* tolerate Lex in a reduced role in the plot with another villain. I like the idea of Metallo. The obvious choices for me are Darkseid or Brainiac.

Agreed. That's the thing that lots of people seem to forget when talking about a rebooted Superman movie franchise. Making a Superman movie is HARD! That's where there was a 19 year gap between Superman IV & Superman Returns. The fact that Bryan Singer got things as right as he did is nothing short of miraculous. The fact that Brandon Routh acquitted himself admirably playing the role with so little dialogue even more so.

Although, I wonder if Warner Bros. has ever considered approaching Richard Donner and/or Tom Mankiewitz (sp?) to do a new film.

I was being slightly sarcastic...
Sarcasm doesn't always effectively translate into the written word. Its why we have 'smilies' to help us be clear, had you used one...

Note: slightly sarcastic. The majority of my post was made in response to indicate how the initial comment was not that accurate in making a comparison. I worded it that way for effect. I'm sorry that it was completely lost on you, and you felt the need to call me a tool because of it.

Everyone knows they stole the Matrix script from someone else. I remember it being some woman who wrote it and they stole it...Thats why the 2nd and 3rd were shit and had little to nothing to do with the first...Cause "they" had to write them...

I love how tools on this board pop up stuff like this and fail to provide links or evidence.
Here's a link. Probably not one that supports DontFeedPhil's premise, but a link nevertheless.

There was a huge thread here about this at the time.

I love how everyone cites how important it is that a black woman owns a typewriter.

I've actually read some exerts of The Third Eye that were floating around the internet. It was the worst piece of crap that I've ever read and I've read Artemis's Lover. Seriously, Artemis's Lover has more literary merit than The Third Eye does. I hope that that puts things in perspective. It's just painful to read. Not emotionally painful as a good tragedy can be, but just that badly written that it grates on you until you can't stand it any more.

The only similarity between The Third Eye and The Matrix is that both have a Messianic figure. Essentially, her claim was that she ripped off The Bible first so that any other Science Fiction writer who rips off The Bible must also be ripping her off. And that Laurence Fishburne is black. Somehow, she thinks she can take credit for that.

Well let me clarify. I don't think you are a tool, the now understood slight sarcasm aside. I thought the comment was "tool-ish".
No prob though we've dwelt on this long enough. No hard feelings. :techman:

I liked SR a lot but I'm not holding my breath for a sequel. Another Superman movie yes, maybe even a movie with Routh (I certainly hope so). However as has been pointed out, that movie was made over 3 years ago and there's been no sign of anything moving along. Announcements for sequels are usually made a lot more quickly than that. When the movie is having perceived as underperformed at the box office (and not loved by all fans), no news is certainly not good news.

Apart from anything else, SR might be particularly hard to follow up after such a gap, what with the kid having aged and everything (though he could be recast). I'm pretty sure they'll ignore it and keep Routh, for the simple reason that hiring a new Superman is a long and expensive process. Luckily for us, he's an excellent Man of Steel but I suspect that that's a secondary factor for the suits ...

Now I'm wondering what would happen if they instead recast the kid by jumping many years into the future, ala the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies.

That China Mummy movie was TERRIBLE! I seriously thought about leaving in the middle of it...but I digress...

I actually think that would be a great idea Borgified Corpse. It'd be interesting to see Jason as a teenage adolesecent with him coming to terms with his developing powers much like a teen deals with puberty. After all didn't Clark start to first experience his abilities for the first time when he was around that age bracket? Plus I think the dynamic between a teenage Jason and Superman could be interesting stuff. Great idea, one that perfectly puts to rest the notion that so much time has passed that it would need to be rebooted.
