Superman Lives Test Footage

Holy crap that was bad. Embarrassingly bad. Who knows, maybe the story could have salvaged something of the design. But the design is so bad that I can't imagine ever taking the film seriously.

The script had a few totally shitty elements but as I recall the story wasn't too bad. With a little Googling it's out there if you're really curious.

Yes. It would have set back the franchise and we would have waited another ten or fifteen years before WB was brave enough to tackle Superman again.

That's what they said about Star Trek after Nemesis and Enterprise. ;)

uh. Wow.

Please tell me that was only going to be a "rebirth" suit and not his actual real costume...... right?

................... RIGHT!?!?

Either way that's pretty horrendous.

Tim Burton's Superman would've been one hell of an interesting train-wreck.

I'd love to have seen it, it would've been totally insane. Superhero movies seem to make potentially good trainwrecks: Schumacher's Batman, Superman III/IV, Catwoman, Supergirl, Steel, and so on.

No, we need to get this thread out to as many eyeballs as possible as WHY TO NEVER. EVER. EEEEEEVERRRRR LET TIME BURTON NEAR DC CHARACTERS EVER AGAIN!

Who in their right frakking mind throught that suit was a good idea? I mean I'm sure the guys making it thought it was cool - but it's not Superman. The only way I see that suit being moderately useful is if they were actually going for the "electro Superman" thing where he turned blue for a while and was only powered when he was Superman and basically normal as Clark.

But I shudder to think of Nic Cage in that suit... or any Superman suit. Ghost Rider... ehhhhh okay, sota. But... oh god that's just... bad.

Yes, and thanks to Enterprise and Nemesis it seems as if we will never see Star Trek again.
Actually, there was an excellent, almost unanimously praised Star Trek movie released in 2009.
Of course, you already knew that, and were just taking the piss, and trying to piss off people on this board, and derailing the current thread...

The movie was fun, but it wasn't Star Trek. And responding to a previous post is not trying to derail a thread.

Yeah it was supposed to be his black and silver suit from the Return of Superman arc. Which is why it had all the glowing lights and what not. I assume that was supposed to be part of the regeneration thingy.

This footage is the rebirth suit, not the actual Superman costume. It was established in a previous thread (where I believe supporting evidence was presented) that Superman would have started the film in this costume http://www.collider.com/2009/09/22/...th-2-where-nicolas-cage-was-cast-as-superman/

He then would have had the rebirth suit seen in this footage.

I just want to know who here thought Nicholas Cage would've made a good Superman? He looks like a burnt-out stoner in those pics.

The words 'in those pics' are superfluous, aren't they?! ;)

Here's a link to a site where I initially saw the footage, with some commentary on what this suit was about. It won't allow me to cut and paste the article but it confirms that the suit was meant to be the Eradicator. There's also a link to Smith's script

I think I read somewhere that those pics of Cage in the Superman suit are not entirely real...that it's his head 'shopped onto a Superman action figure.

I'm very much for keeping Superman's costume the way it's looked for the past 30 or 40 years.
It's not like trying to make it more 'realistic' is going to help those people that may think it's goofy change their minds, and those of us that already accept it well, we already accept it.
A new costume too far from what we've seen in the past 30 to 40 years (I consider the Superman Returns one as basically the same as the others) would be like New Coke.

Oh my god... Nic Cage looks like he took that while he was in highschool back in the late 70's. As one poster already mentioned he looks like Stonerman.

Why was Burton making a movie that looks so terrible? He did pretty well with Batman in the late 80s...
