Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

I think most fans believe there will be a relationship between Alex and Maggie. I am thinking that too until we learn anything different. We know those two interact with each other. Plus Alex mentioned not having a date in a long time. I think Kara and Mon-El is more likely.

^^
As far as I know, Supergirl's love life has never really been a prominent feature of the comics, it's not like she ever had an iconic relationship or anything in the comics.
So I don't think her being gay would really be that controversial as people who would usually come out and complain masking their thinly veiled homophobia in "that's not what happens in the comics" wouldn't really have much to hide behind.
True to some extent, but studio executives are a superstitious, cowardly lot, and tend to play it safe with major characters.

I know one mother that has already said that she no longer approves of the show as role model for her 14 year old if that happens.... for the show's (ratings) sake, I hope a move like that doesn't set two different groups against each other (girl power vs gay power in terms of demographics).

Thought this was a much better episode than the premiere, with a lot of fun character moments and some of the best action and flying effects they've done yet (that underside shot in the beginning as she flies over to put out the fire was especially cool). In fact it almost had the feel of a season finale what with Cat leaving, another visit to the Fortress, and the big fight with everyone at the end.

I also loved Kara geeking out about her new reporter notepad, failing completely at cursing, and going all Buffy on the bad guy with "And now I'm going to punch your face". :D

I think Kara and Mon-El is more likely.

The Kreisberg interview I posted before indicates that
Kara and Mon-El will clash at first, because there's not a very friendly history between Krypton and Daxam. Although it also says they'll "come together" eventually, which could mean as lovers or just as allies.

I know one mother that has already said that she no longer approves of the show as role model for her 14 year old if that happens...

And what if her 14-year-old turns out to be lesbian or bi herself? Role models aren't just for one category of person. And does this mother know that two of the show's top creators (Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler) are openly LGBT?

Standing fantheory is that Powergirl might be Rip Hunter's mother.

The CW does not target small children.

Advertisers on the CW do not give a shit about children, because if 11 year olds who are watching Beauty and the Beast or Vampire Diaries, they are not likely to buy barbie dolls and tonka trucks. Mature children buy mature products.

Parents that think that their 8 year old is safe watching the CW, is like that girl who sued her university because of the the rape and murder in Watchmen comics that the syllabus forced her her to read because she thought that modern comics where for children.

A mother controlling what a 14 year of watches on TV?

14 is sometimes old enough to be worried about STDs, crack and pregnancy.

If your kid is 14 and they are still obeying your commandments about TV, you are on easy street as a parent.

I really loved these opening two episodes with Superman. There is just something inherently thrilling at seeing the two of them on screen together. The real question is what episode 3 is going to be like, missing Superman and Cat. But I have high hopes this show will continue to improve on what's come before.

Well, having Wonder Woman in the episode (sort of) should help compensate...

I thought the second episode was a lot weaker than the first - and what's with Superman's lame excuse for not being in episode 3? Got to get back to Lois? The dude can fly faster than a speeding bullet. He could visit Kara every day and still be back for breakfast.

When I think of Supergirl and romance, I think of some goofy Silver Age stories about her horse (which was in love with her) and Superman himself (Supergirl used a computer to discover that she was Superman's perfect mate). I can't think of anything more recent.

The Matrix Supergirl, of course, was in a relationship with Lex Luthor's Australian clone.

People often assume that, but if you think about it, flying that fast across the country could create damaging winds and weather disruptions, not to mention the hazards to air traffic. Maybe they could go suborbital, but the first-season finale established that they need air to push against somehow, so being in the thinner upper atmosphere wouldn't be good for their flight speed. So I assume that the Supers limit their airspeed when it isn't an emergency.

Besides, as I said, it's not just about travel time, it's about all the commitments of having lives of their own. Even people who live just a few minutes' drive from each other can have trouble finding time out of their busy work and family schedules to get together.

The Matrix Supergirl, of course, was in a relationship with Lex Luthor's Australian clone.

Which was really creepy and unflattering to Matrix Supergirl, because she had to be pretty clueless not to see how Lex was manipulating her and exploiting her sexually. When I recently read that new collection of the whole Death/Rebirth of Superman saga, that Lex-Supergirl relationship was perhaps the most troubling element for me.

I guess that would depend on which of Powergirl's origins their currently running with as to why Rip doesn't have any of her abilities then.

The Jurgens/Giffen stuff just before Flashpoint.

Booster Gold was revealed as Rip Hunter's father, and they were heading towards a How I met Your Mother Situation, where we were being fed scraps about how Booster hooked up with "some-one".

If Powergirl is the mom...

1. Someone who had the powers of Superman, would not want to spend most of his life careful like a bull in a china shop restraining the powers of Superman while flying around in time ships not much bigger than an RV, worried about busting up his ride and being a man overboard in time. He would find a way to turn them off, temporarily or permanently.

2. The Powers of Superman (Powergirl) can sometimes be used to out right time travel, or if they can't, they can certainly be used to help enhance whatsoever method of time travel he is using.

She looked up to Jimmy because of his relationship with Superman and realized a lack of chemistry after their first kiss.

Her romantic feelings for James was not based on his relationship with Superman--that's not explored in season one. She was taken with Olsen from the second she set eyes on him, and the feelings intensified over the course of the season. Regarding her 1st kiss with James, that was the very second Myriad was launched; she certainly was enjoying it and until she realized something was wrong, her only concern was not about some realization that there was no chemistry, but if he enjoyed the kiss (apparently, she did). The second kiss was in the season finale, where she still had feelings for Olsen.

So, the entire Kara/James relationship was no one-off, or random event--it was as much one of the defining "legs" of Kara's character as her trying to find her way as Supergirl.

They gave Kara (actual Supergirl in the new continuity - well, pre New 52) a potential boyfriend (Power Boy, or somesuch) but he turned out to be an agent of Darkseid and seriously stalkerish. She ended up punching big dents into him.

Not sure of anything else.

It ain't exactly unusual for sparks to fly all over the place in the pre-relationship stage and then once people actually get together for it to fizzle out almost instantly.
Granted, it doesn't usually happen in TV relationships that they spend an entire season building...

When they finally get around to really doing the Legion of Super-Heroes, the obvious romantic interest would be Brainiac 5. Anyway, I see no need to push her into a new romance, especially just now that she's more about growing into her new job and all that.
