"Supergirl Lives"
SG/Kara: Sooo, she shoots a van, causing it to flip over...with mere humans in it? She had to know that action had the potential to kill all inside, but....oh well, its Supergirl!
She's all about pushing Mon-El into being a hero, yet she--hypocritically--whines on and on about the Guardian....I guess her "tolerance" for new heroes is reserved for beings from her own "neighborhood" in the universe, or perhaps she only accepts heroes if she has some sort of control over them.
James/Guardian: I'm enjoying the idea of Guardian Oeasily the most interesting part of the show), but all elements seem to be hard-telegraphing his fall--lethal to himself or another (not Winn) in the near future.
I can almost see a Guardian v. Mon-El conflict story for one reason or another, with SG helping to hurt the masked man spiking her jealousy / hatred...then "ohhhnooo!!"
Winn: Almost punching his ticket. A reckless move that has to come back to haunt him, considering his newfound backbone.
"I am not a red shirt" Not in this episode, but some rumors suggest someone among the cast might be....
Mon-El: Forced, predictable "cutesy bickering" pairing all to place Mon-El in a position to bring the "hero" out of him, and the equally forced CW-style romance.
How long will it take for his secret to be exposed?
Alex: She's all about her personal life, then she decides she's concerned about her missing sister at the expense of everything else?
Why would Alex take an untrained guy to another planet? Aside from plot convenience (Winn's B story), there's no sense in taking him there.
Roulette: One wonders what the end game with her is--being a glorified super-being / alien fight promoter / slaver should go somewhere in the series. She still comes off as a one-off villain despite a couple of appearances.
NOTES:
The series borrowed a touch of the JL "War World" plot (the kidnapping part), but it would have been entertaining to see the episode go all the way in that direction.
Ah, the character building / past reference / wink to the audience--
Supergirl: "Oh man, I hate these guys!"
Indiana Jones: "Nazis...I hate these guys!"
Considering the level of alien weaponry used, there's no realistic way Alex and other humans should be able to deal with / prepare for a conflict. They should be completely overwhelmed...but...
The only way the Mon-El business will not be so "I know where that's going" is the man to be trained by SG, gain her trust, only to turn on her for some season-ending shocker. Possibly his S3 exit from the series.
