Super-Enhanced 525 line???

"they look like garbage" is a review that is believed by the stupidist of the stupid and you deserve what you get when you listen to folks like that.
...don't have to take my word for it, or yours for that matter.

Whoops, those are the very reviews (if you click on them) that give them 3 and 4 stars.

Those reviews don't say anything even remotely like "they are garbage!"

Thanks for helping my argument. The review for TWOK says the way the film was originally filmed is responsible for they way the Blu-ray looks NOT the hidef remastering.

The review for TMP is also a darn good review.

Glad you posted that. Those reviews have a lot of nice things to say about the blu-rays (except for TVH)

Maybe there needs to be some new and consistent vernacular with DVD ... like calling a version that doesn't have a ton of DNR on it, one that actually resembles the theatrical version of the film, an 'Archive Edition' or words to that effect...
Kinda like the Superbit series, or the Criterion editions?

Ideally, yeah, but with a higher success rate than Superbit.

Criterion has always been the ideal, but I kinda doubt they'd be interested, as they are often director-driven with their choices (I know, they did a Michael Bay movie and a Verhoeven, but exceptions prove the rule.)

Also, I'm not sure about how well you can fix these things up ... the story I heard often enough was that the original effects elements for TMP -- not TOS, but TMP -- were thrown out by the effects vendors after a couple years because Paramount didn't want to pay to store them. I guess a lot of TMP stuff just remained at EEG (trumbull's) up till 82 or so. Maybe Trumbull got pissed when he got fucked over on the deal to do TWOK and tossed them. BTW, I'm not talking finished shots, just the elements, which would explain why ILM always had trouble finding stock elements to recomp ... Paramount would look and never find them, presumably cuz they ain't around to find.
