Sulu vs Chekov???

As part of my tribute to Star Trek's 41 Annivarsary, I have been watching Season 2 on DVD of TOS. The text commentary by MICHAEL OKUDA & DENISE OKUDA states that during Season 2 of TOS that Walter Kornig (Mr Chekov) had more screen time than Helsman Sulu played by George Takei. Was this always the case through out the entire series?? Who did more episodes overall during entire series?? George or Walter??

Also, Does anybody have information on the movie that George Takei, was doing during the filming of season two of TOS?? Is this movie available on DVD? Please advise...

Takei was involved in filming The Green Berets through more of season two than was expected, so his lines became Keonig's.

TOS production budgets could rarely afford to have them both in the same episode, so they were to be alternated throughout the season.

They got a pretty good balance of screen time between them over the last two seasons..

My real complaint is that Lt. Lisa didn't get as much screen time as Lt. Palmer.

Takei mentioned in an interview he was not pleased to put it politely when the character Chekov arrived. Enough frustration with the Shatman perhaps, & now another potential screentime taker.

Ah, but Lt Lisa (Barbara Baldavin) was mistakenly called "Lisa" twice by Janice Lester in Kirk's body. "Lisa" was really Angela Martine-Tomlinson-Teller-Baker, and thus in two more episodes than Palmer ("The Doomsday Machine" and "The Way to Eden").

How many episodes did each actor do overall??
Please advise......

I can see why Takei would be upset with character of Chekov, after a review of the second season of TOS most of episodes goes to Walter Koenig instead of him.

Did George Takei have a major role in THE GREEN BERETS?? I have never seen this movie, but I know that John Wayne is the major star in the movie. The Green Berets is available on DVD and I was thinking about ordering it from Amazon.com for $11.99 :) :vulcan:

Has anybody seen this movie that George when off to do and gave up most of his lines from Star Trek Season 2 to Walter Koenig?? Please advise???

No, it was a minor supporting role. He played a South Vietnamese advisor to John Wayne.

My advice is for you to save your money. It's not a very good movie and is told from a completely "John Wayne WWII Hero" point of view. The whole film basically tries to justify US involvement in Vietnam, and doesn't do a very good job of it.

It's run on TV quite often, on AMC or some other movie channel. Try to catch it for free.

Thanks, for your input.....

Did George Takei have more episodes overall over the three seasons?

Also, Takei in The Green Beret's only took him away from TOS for at most 1 or 2 episodes, as his part was small.

As the Andorian said:

Walter Koenig: 37 episodes (+ 7 movies, + 1 episode of DS9 & 1 episode of ST:NV)
George Takei: 51 episode (+ 6 movies, + 1 episode of VOY, + 1 episode of ST:NV & 4 episodes of TAS, if you consider them canon [well, I do :bolian: ])

What episode of DS9 did Walter Koenig do and what role did he have??

Didn't George Takei also work on more than 4 episodes of TAS?

From imdb.com:

"Star Trek" .... Lt. Hikaru Sulu / ... (4 episodes, 1973)
... aka Star Trek: TAS (USA: promotional abbreviation)
... aka Star Trek: The Animated Adventures (USA)
... aka Star Trek: The Animated Series
... aka The Animated Adventures of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek (USA: video box title)
- The Slaver Weapon (1973) TV Episode (voice) .... Lt. Hikaru Sulu/Additional voices
- One of Our Planets Is Missing (1973) TV Episode .... Lt. Hikaru Sulu
- Yesteryear (1973) TV Episode (voice) .... Lt. Hikaru Sulu/Additional voices
- Beyond the Farthest Star (1973) TV Episode (voice) .... Lt. Hikaru Sulu

Walter Koenig appeared as ... Lt. Chekov on DS9! :p In "Trials & Tribble-ations". I know it was a bit misleading, but IIRC, all the original actors form "The Trouble With Tribbles" were credited again for the DS9 episode.

Wow, I didn't know this fact about Trials & Tribble-ations, now I MUST rewatch this episode of DS9 to spot this guest spot by Walter.

He appears with Scotty and the other officer in the Lounge of Deep Space Station K-7 right before the brawl and is in the middle of the fight with the Klingons that sweeps in Bashir and O'Brien when the room goes nuts :p

It was at least two episodes. Sulu was written out of Tribbles and the Gamesters of Triskellion because he was still working on the Green Berets.

So, Did Koenig still look the same for his appearance in Deep Space Nine since that was many years later in life??  or did he have to get lots of heavy make-up for this small appearance?? :vulcan:
