There was never any tension or excitement during the action scenes because there was no risk and I didn't care about the characters at all.
That's you. Other feel differently. I thought the action sequences were some of the best I had ever seen.

You really need to get out more.

The battle cry of the apologist.
No, just the truth.

Let me guess, I should just accept it for what it is and I'm also somehow foolish for expecting a good movie?
No, you are being foolish by acting that your subjective opinions are objective fact.

I can't tell you how many times I see those 3 statements repeated in half-assed attempts to defend shitty movies.
Because you didn't like it doesn't mean it was shitty.

I'd challenge you to find a movie that has less plot than this.
T2, Ironman2, The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones, Fast and The Furious, The A Team, Hot Tub Time Machine...ect

I'd say this fits in quite nicely at the bottom of the barrel with the rest of the garbage you're damning while holding this used condom of a movie up as some sort of fun romp.
I say this movie was fun because I had fun watching it.

This movie disappointed me. I liked that it was about chicks kicking ass and it looked trippy in the trailers but it was so loud and slow-moving that I was really disappointed. The main character didn't talk that much and neither did any of the other characters. While I liked the idea of what was real vs. Baby Doll's dream world, it got really tedious after a bit. Mixing of the different time periods is fine and I enjoyed the look of the film but if I see one more slow-motion action sequence in another film, I'm going to scream.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about that since I've only the first one and that was years ago. Never felt the need to see the other two but I think with "The Matrix" I don't remember it being the entire movie and there was an actual plot and dialogue. "Sucker Punch" lacks in both.

News about Sucker Punch

A little late, but it looks like Sucker Punch is #1 in the Foreign Box Offices last weekend. Not bad, even for a slow weekend.

You know, the more I think about it, Sucker Punch has more common with the Matrix than I initially realize. The real world is a horrible place. The Matrix and the asylum/brothel are prisons. Characters can do anything in the non-real world. Neo is the One, and Babydoll is a guardian angel.

Yet it's still 30 million short of what it cost to make the film (not to mention what it cost to market, distribute, and cut in the theaters on it). Flop on, you mighty flop of a movie.

Uh... no. Yes, Neo gains seemingly limitless powers in the sequels, but he's the only one, and he still comes close to being killed several times. And, most importantly, anyone who dies in the non-real world dies in the real world also (which happens many times over in all three Matrix films) - a bit of narrative tension-building it certainly seems that SP desperately needed.

Three letters sir. (well, two, one of them twice)

D V D

Movies have been making more money on DVD overall than they have at the box office for years now

Unfortunately that also comes with added production and distribution costs. This thing will not come anywhere near breaking even all said and done.

I saw the movie, I loved it, there's really no more story to tell; a sequel is unnecessary. Therefore any talk about box office is meaningless to me.

Hey, I didn't bring it up - I was just laughing about it.

While I did quote you in my previous post, I was more responding about the whole box office discussion in general. Outside of genre films that lend themselves to sequels, I've never really taken an interest in how a film does monetary wise.

It's pertinent to the film-maker's future career, if in fact you do like the kind of stuff he puts out.

To be fair...I never thought that "Sucker Punch" would be a monster hit. It was my dark horse pick for the spring season. The negative reviews and feedback have most likely hurt it's box office projection. It was projected to win it's opening weekend. I do think that the DVD sales will be up there.

Snyder's real test is gonna be "Superman" box office next winter.

I never thought Sucker Punch will do well in the Box Office either. I honestly thought ticket sales will be lower than Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

Let's face it, action movies with female leads don't have a good track record in the box office. Having big name stars or being based on a popular franchise helps.

Btw, I wasn't clear what I said earlier. I didn't mean it's of the same quality of Matrix. Most of us will agree Matrix is a superior film. I originally thought the ONLY thing they'll have in common is the slow mo, bullet time effect.

^ Yeah I got what you were saying. I thought it was similar to "The Matrix" in regards to the slo-motion "bullet time" effect. I didn't really have a problem with it's use in this movie. I wonder if Zack knew the risk he was taking when he decided that this idea would be his first original feature? I'm guessing that he did and that's one of the reasons why wanted to make this in the first place. It was bold and ambitious, not to mention part of his forte as well. It's just too bad others didn't like it. It kind of reminds me of "The Blair Witch Project". Either you loved it (as I did) or you hate it.

This confirms that the 18 minutes of deleted footage will be included in the "Sucker Punch" DVD when it comes out.

I absolutely adore Watchmen so I had been looking forward to this since I first heard about it a year or so ago. I had heard that there were a lot of bad reviews, although they did not put me off they did make me wonder what they movie was going to be like.

I was hooked from the first scene. I was captivated throughout and was thoroughly entertained. I love Zack Snyder's style and the action sequences were epic. I also thought the song choices were great.

I thought the overall message was empowering; that we have the ability to shape our own reality and no matter what befalls us we can fight against it.

Very entertaining.

Empowering? 3 of them died and one was lobotomized. Apparently the message was fight and die...

This.

The 'empowering' message that i took away from this movie was that if women in abusive situations attempt to shape their own destiny they will end up dead at the hands of abusive men. The girls were caught out due to one of their friends being a coward and blabbing the whole story. What's empowering about that?

Saw this yesterday and loved it.. The visuals, the girls... The story.. Yes, it wasn't about empowering.. It was about escape and sacrifice..

LOVE the soundtrack.. The remixed Bjork song is fantastic.. Already did the downloady thing..
