I do think some of the cgi came off as a bit lackluster. In certain scenes you could tell the actors were standing in front of green screens.

No, I don't - and I wasn't familiar with the fact that it was based on a successful book series - my bad! And I don't think they'll pull Snyder off Superman, I just would wager they're sweating it a bit more. Is Snyder writing Superman too?

You know I really don't think they're sweating at all.

No? I don't know - Watchmen lost money and Sucker Punch is going to lose a LOT of money. If I were an exec I'd be sweating it. Then again, it is a Superman movie which will at least bring in a huge first weekend, though I know a lot of people are leary of Superman movies especially after the last one. We'll see I guess.

I just came back from seeing it. The theater was a third full which hurt the atmosphere a bit but people were feeling it. I loved it. I had some minor problems with the acting, and pacing but otherwise it pretty much is as advertised. I was psyched going in and satisfied coming out so I'm pretty happy. I can't wait to see what Snyder does with "Superman" visually. He's certainly comfortably in his element in "Sucker Punch". I also loved all the life messages from Babydoll's sensei (Scott Glenn). I really want to see a director's cut of this film.

You basically nailed how I felt about it. Now, I didn't loooooove the film but I enjoyed it an awful lot, and I did love the action pieces. And Jamie Chung piloting a mech while eating a lollipop is going to invade my dreams for weeks. :techman:

Doubtful it would still get a pg-13 rating with all that. And most people get their porn for free, so watching lesbians make out for 12 bucks a pop is hardly worth it.

Whaaa??!?! I'm not suggesting that Snyder have included nudity or explicit sex scenes (though I wouldn't necessarily have minded). I'm suggesting he should have included a prominent love story, to provide an emotional hook for the audience's interest. Lesbians do more than simply make out, you know - they have feelings, too. :rolleyes:

And if the MPAA, in its boundless stupidity, tried to slap him with an R based on a romance subplot that would have stayed PG-13 with straights, then... there's a hip controversy and oodles of free publicity waiting to happen.

From what I've heard about this film, emotions weren't exactly a big factor in the execution.

Ok, I know I should know better... but seeing the positive reviews slowly coming out online is making me kind of curious to see it now.

After all, 300 and Watchmen may not hold up well on repeat viewings, but they WERE a lot of damn fun to watch in theaters that first time (of course those movies also got much better scores from critics- 60% and 64%).

But then I have to remind myself that there are people who also love Speed Racer, TPM, and The Spirit for some unfathomable reason, and this may just be another one of those.

Hmm. So hard to decide...

I would strongly recommend against it, but I never thought 300 or Watchmen were good movies either. I was initially excited for this because it's his first original work, but from what I hear it's just noise and visuals with a weak ass story between action scenes. I guess if you don't mind that, have at, but I'm not going to give this movie a dime of my money. I'll probably watch it somehow, just so that I know it's crap and if I like it, then I'll go pay for it.

And I would recommend it, though in the end it is your decision. And I wouldn't spend 10+ dollars on a movie based on advice from some people on the net.

Unlike Bishop, I have seen the movie. And to me the story was strong enough to carry the film, in fact the film would have worked without the CGI action sequences, but that doesn't mean they don't play their part in the story. There is a lot of foreshadowing and subtext in this film. And at the end it has a pretty good moral.

So I enjoyed it, felt it was worth my 8.50, and am seriously considering going to see it again in theaters. Which I rarely do because of the insane prices.

^ Totally agree with Aldo. There was substance and depth in this movie, there is story, and it gets paid off. Zack Snyder is a visual director and this is a visual movie but that doesn't mean that is all there was to this movie. I would see the movie or I wouldn't. Don't judge it though just on the basis of others opinions. Go see it your self and make up your own opinion.

The wife and I saw it in IMAX at fifteen bucks a pop and I liked it pretty well and she says I don't like anything. :lol:

Davejames, since you liked 300 and Watchmen, I would recommend Sucker Punch too. Some of this stuff is best seen on the big screen.

For those of you who saw the film, or the posters at least, what are Rocket's and Blondie's outfits?

Babydoll = Navy sailor
Amber = Army soldier / pilot
Sweet Pea = Knight
Blondie = ???
Rocket = ???

Here's a links that has all of them
