Such a sad story ...

This type of story is always depressing. When there's no cause to the death other than simple accident, I don't know whether it blunts or sharpens the tragedy. And I agree, PurpleLady, these things do prey on your mind. I grieve with the family.

What a horrible thing. He was just trying to do something nice for his kid and got overzealous. :(

Being from Dallas, I read this news and was very sad. It has happened before. The solution is to cage the whole stadium in and that will not be allowed to happen.

Being in New York for a vacation, someone fell down the steps in the Theatre mezzanine section tonight and there was a loud thud and a scream. My heart nearly stopped. He had only tripped, but a moment it ws flashback to teh news. Accidents are just that, accidents. Sometimes the are deadly.

RIP and pray for the family.

^^ That happened in the local theater that I go to. An old lady fell face first down on the steps between the seating sections. Thank goodness she wasn't hurt.

So let's wrap everyone up in cotton wall so they won't ever hurt themselves and just die from old age and boredom.

Football stadiums used to be caged in until something really terrible happened. Although on paper it's an okish idea, practically speaking, it's a million miles from ok.

^I wasn't supporting the idea, I was simply stating that that would be about the only thing that could be done to prevent such things.

And it would not stop someone tripping and falling down the stairs, or something else.

Accidents are an often horrid part of life.

Indeed, That's the main thing here, it was an accident, no more, no less, everyone has 20:20 hindsight and just because one person dies from an accident, one only likely to happen once or twice ever, suggesting such a radical change is as I said, okish on paper, it's far far from that from a practical standpoint.

I saw that story online. How horrible for the child. I'm guessing he'll never want to see a game live again. He and his family are in my prayers.

That poor kid will be scarred for quite some time. I hope his family gets him in to counseling. Isn't this the third time that someone fell over the railing at a Rangers game? Looking at the pictures it seems like those railings are a little low compared to the other stadiums I've been too.

Actually, after the first fall, the Rangers raised all teh railing to higher than league standards. But people and gravity can negate many things.

This broke my heart when I read about it. How awful for everyone involved. The family is in my prayers.

what makes it even sadder is that it was such a useless death. I mean, if the father had perished in the attempt to protect his kid from getting hit by a ball, that'd at least have had a certain sense, but the way this happened it's just a terrible waste of life for nothing at all. The kid will never be able to watch a game and will propably all his life feel guilty. It's a lose/lose situation for all involved :(

It is horrible. I don't mean to sound insensitive, but a foul baseball is not worth dying for. No object is worth a man's life.
