Succession Season 3 (Premiering Oct 17)

Great new episode.

Must say they are poising things very well and just when the viewer thinks they have a bead on how things are going to pan out, they throw a spanner in there.

At this point, Shiv and Wambsgans might jump ship if they felt Ken could really pull it off (which he is not currently being shown as capable of doing). Greg, well, he's stuttering about because he doesn't know which way to go and how he's going to save himself, but I wonder why neither Tom nor Logan suspects him that he could turn on them.

Finally looked like they were adding weight to Connor but again they're endorsing that other guy that Shiv doesn't like.

Delightfully disgusting the way the next President is going to be determined by the influence of a media giant. Contemporaneous.

I watched the episode, but I think I drifted off for some of it near the start and missed some of the context of who the fascist newscaster was.

Greg's a weird character in that he always seems to just go along and nervously have fun with whoever he's in the room with.

That was one of the best episodes of the series so far. Kendall's ridiculous birthday party, flipping out when he then can't find the gift his children gave him. "Failed sibling dies in tragic jack off accident".

Agree, a fantastic episode from start to end and Kendall's trajectory can only go up from here, I hope.
Roman for the time being may be basking in all his glory but he is straddling a tight line and all that will soon or later come crashing down.

I was wondering why they totally sidelined Gregg's new gf/Kendall's pr agent this episode, I think she was just in the background a couple times, and Gregg was all about dumping her and hitting on another woman. I looked her up, she's a vocal "Covid is a fake" conspiracy theorist. Wonder if that has something to do with it.

I loved that interchange between Kendall and Logan. First Logan using his son as a poison tester for the meal. Then Kendall trying to give him what he wants, ****ing off, and Logan still refusing and trying to control him. Giving his personal justification for how spreading propaganda to make everyone hate each other is actually a good thing for the world, 'He knows uncomfortable things about the world'.

Then Roman accidentally sending the pic to his dad and Shiv jumping on it to destroy her opposition, after she was emboldened by her mother's insight about Logan's behavior.

Played the "waiter died because of you" card. Kendall swallowed but managed to hold ground. He knows he's lost though. If there's one thing about Logan, he never makes things easy for anybody. Especially not his children.

Logan doesn't just want to win, he wants to dominate. Even a victory where Kendall comes out feeling morally superior is a loss for him.

Oh boy, daddy screwed 'em.

I think the
whole Tom thing is a red herring. Kendall is the one who gave the idea of buying Waystar Royco to Skarsgards character begin with. I think Kendall is the one who leaked it, maybe through an intermediary, to allow Logan time to arrange the deal with Kendall's mom. And Kendall is coming out of this with a deal with Skarsgaard

On the surface it seems like a sudden character change for Logan to be willing to give up family control of the business. But with the dick pics Logan is so disillusioned to his kids he thinks he’s being a responsible parent giving his kids adversity.

Always get the feeling that Logan's playing a long & deep game to select the best successor. But who knows: this show throws in the wrench every time you think you understand what's transpiring.

Deep down he wants to take care of his kids, just he's been so thoroughly let down by all three of them, he thinks the only way to make them strong is to take away their entitlements. He wants them to 'Start building their own stack' instead of scheming over his.

I think it's simpler than all that. I think he just doesn't give a fuck. The only advantage to his kids inheriting is that it remains his legacy, his empire, his name. He doesn't give a shit about them at all, outside of what they bring him. And now Skarsgards money brings him more value than his retaining the company, so fuck everyone.

On one level I would agree, he's just as self interested sociopath. But if you look at his pattern of behavior toward his kids, and what Shiv's mother said to her about his attitude toward his children. He sincerely wants them to succeed, but he doesn't believe in coddling them, he believes in pushing the birds out of the nest and putting them through adversity. He wanted to eventually give his company to whichever of his children proved to be a young version of him, and is utterly convinced now none of them are, so can't give it to any of them. He has a strict wolf-and-sheep vision of the world, and none of them are wolves.

Brian Cox says Logan Roy loves his kids.

But maybe it's not important for the audience to know. Hmm.

Their family finances are so mysterious. Does Kendall still have $2 billion in stock, or does this divorce settlement renegotiation somehow pull back that stock as well? If he has that stock, does the cash sale of Waystar mean he will automatically get that $2 billion in cash he was asking about just one episode ago?

I was surprised Logan let Kendall have so much stock. He seems to pride control above all else. Though, there might be some family trust provisions stipulating an inability to sell without a majority vote.

Remember before Kendall's deal at the start when Logan was in the hospital, the family controlled a majority of the stock.

I'm not sure how they could revoke somebody's stocks, but he could potentially structure the acquisition in a way that seriously dilutes its value.

One more these worth noting. In season 1 a big point of contention between Kendall and Logan was Kendall wanted to focus on new media and slogan was angling for a local news station package.

This ending is kind of like Logan surrendering to new media.
