Sub Rosa

Gods, I hope it's not true. It was bad enough she cast a shadow in series 3 and popped up all over the place in series 4 (although Piper's appearance as The Moment worked for me). Enough is enough already. Bleah.

If they want to bring back a companion, why not Leela or Romana (Lalla or otherwise) or Jamie or Zoe?

Didn’t spot this anywhere so started a new thread,

http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/doctor...fans-speculating-billie-piper-returning-rose/

Could it be true? Do we care? If she returned from the Peterverse, having married the metacrisis Doctor, would Rose Tyler become Rose Doctor, assuming she took his name?

Me, I love any throwback to previous eras, but what’s wrong with McGann? His feet smell or something?

The evidence is a rose in a fucking social media post.
This is beyond ridiculous speculation. This is grasping at straws.
And, no, I'm not that interested in her return.
Or, really, ANYONE'S return in Whitaker's first season. Just let it stand on it's own.

If for no other reason than their age, I'd like to see Susan and/or Ian.

Susan should have returned in series 10. Assuming Carole Ann Ford wanted to reprise the role or they didn't want to do a regenerated-Susan and with everything else going on, they wouldn't have Susan regenerate into a male...

"Peterverse"? Sounds like the name of a bar that some nerds might go to. :guffaw:

Some have postulated Rose returning it's because Rose wanted a romantic sexual relationship with the Doctor and there's a greeeeeeeeeeeat dramatic opportuni-- um, let's see: A 15 year old girl going at it with a guy who's 900+ but looks 50 and with mommy slapping him in the face and stuff? Wouldn't have been allowed then and imagine the responses if they actually tried it.

The show needs to move forward. Or if a NuWHO companion came back, subvert instead of using crowd-pleasing clichés. Keeping everything platonic would make life easier for the makers, the show lasted decades without needing to have goo-goo puppy-dog STD-spreading eyes going on between Doctor and companion.

And given how Chibnall seems to be going the completely new broom, new everything... The Rose fandom has been barking for a long time.

You don't need to tweak Rose's age to make it sound worse. She was 19 at the start of Eccleston's series (character not actress).

Why would they even want to do that? Roses' story is over and done with, complete
with unlikely happy ending. Bring back Billie's hooker show...

I'll go against the grain and say I for one would be...interested in her return. Bringing back Romana or Leela wouldn't really be a great plan, considering the majority of the general public don't know who they are, whilst Sarah Jane when she was brought back was remembered due to being the most iconic companion pre NuWho (although bringing back Susan could work due to being talked about before, pictures of her on Capaldi's desk in series 10, plus the whole story of the Doctor's granddaughter meeting again after being left to have a life on Earth would be compelling as a story even without the added nostalgia). Sure in that sense, any old companion meeting again after years and years, meeting them old again would be a compelling story in its own right, but I think it'd work better with a 60s companion (particularly Jamie as he got his memory erased of the Doctor, and something about meeting a companion as an old man who doesn't remember you could set up a nice story, maybe he could have demmenture and it'd be a moving piece). Okay that probably wouldn't work either, and tbh I'd quite like to see these companions back, but it doesn't seem feasible nor really rewarding for the general public, especially seeing this is a new era.

Now, contrast that with Rose, who is pretty much the most memorable modern companion, pretty much most viewers will remember Billie Piper was at least a companion, and probably have watched her as Rose (afterall that was pretty much the modern show's golden age), that would bring in viewers, and seeing that seems to be the main objective for the show at the moment, that'd probably be a decent idea. Do I think it'll actually happen? No, not really. Would I be shocked? No, I guess they're really trying to max out ratings if they do that. Would I be shocked if they got say, Romana back? Yes, what an odd ball move.

Personally as someone who grew up in the RTD era and have been recently re-watching it, I'd quite like to see Rose come back, it'd be interesting to see how it could be done, her reaction to a female Doctor would also be interesting. But I can't really see it living up to expectations. But who knows... It'd probably be an episode I'd anticipate though if it did happen, lets put it that way.

This always gets me. If this were the 80's or 90's, it might be an issue for newer fans.

If I'm not up on something a show throws at me, I just go to the interwebz and google it. Not the same as having "been there" of course, but at least I know who the character is or what the reference is about.

I have no idea what % of Who fans today watched the classic series or how much of the classic series they saw. I only ever really saw mid-Pertwee onwards, but I know who Susan is and would love for her to return, or Ian.

Yep, pretty much. I started with Pertwee when I was a kid, but most of the Classic Who I watched was on first broadcast, so the memory is very hazy.

SJA brought back Jo Grant and the Brigadier, despite the fact that its target audience had no idea who either character were, and indeed weren't even alive when they made their last appearances.

SJA was targeted towards, what, 10 year olds? And even then they put a couple old school characters in, most likely for the older DW fans that would invariably watch it.

For the uninformed, Susan vs. some other female character the dialog says the Doctor has a history with (Tasha Lem comes to mind), there's no difference. But for us long time fans, it's a nice nod to the past if it is Susan.

Well, SArah had been in School Reunion, so they'd know who she was...

Bring it on. I live for old companions meeting the new Doctor⁽¹⁾. I adored Capaldi's Doctor/Clara, and Tennant's Doctor/Rose (as well as Tennant/me angry fanboy—Eccleston couldn't be topped). There's got to be someone other than the fandom being shaken to their core when a new Doctor shows up,⁽²⁾ and for the regeneration to resound in-universe. I'm still disappointed the Eleventh Doctor could never meet Donna, or that he never met Martha outside of comics. But at least he got River... And Queen Elizabeth, I guess.

The Thirteenth Doctor is probably not going to meet any past companions. That I don't like. I'm still counting on her meeting Kate Steward, and she'll likely meet past Doctor incarnations and the Master at some point as well. But if Rose or Martha showed up, I'd start a celebration. I didn't yet know who Sarah Jane Smith was when School Reunion happened, and their encounter still had me kicking and screaming.

It's not just the emotional part though. It feels lonely to know it won't happen.

⁽¹⁾ I hooked up my spaceship's life support systems to a VCR playing those in a loop. Let's see how long it holds.
⁽²⁾ Why should I resort to online forums to get my outrage fix, when it could happen directly on-screen? It's more efficient that way.

I wouldn't say the 13th Doctor won't EVER meet a past companion, but, I would highly doubt it in the first series.

Let me rephrase – I don't find it likely she'll meet past companions, but I'm secretly hoping Martha appears again in an episode some day during her tenure. But yeah, later series will definitely be fine with me. :)

I'd love to see Martha return!
Actually, though, I would love to see Donna return, and have the Doctor remove that stupid Character Wiping Device and let Donna be great again.

Donna with the 13th Doctor would be AMAZING.
