STXI comes back to IMAX for a limited time

Holy...! I think I just might have to take advantage of this. Its playing at the 2 IMAXs closest to me. 2 months is just too long to wait for the DVD.

No Danberry for me this weekend!
Bill, if you have a choice - go to the Cinema Delux in Springdale for their IMAX - it was a much better experience for me than the AMC in Newport.

Unfortunately I'm just soooo much closer to the AMC in Newport. Saw Star Trek there on opening night, seems fitting to see it the last time there. :)
Saw it 3 times in IMAX the first go-around (twice at Springdale and once at Newport). Then the AMC in Newport had the film out of sync then it stopped completely right after JTK's birth and stayed stopped for around 10-15 minutes while they tried to fix it - and some people got up and left. They did hand out free vouchers to those that stayed. Unfortunately they did not go back and show the film from the beginning even tho' some asked. I would love to see it at the AMC Easton in Columbus (I'll be in town this Saturday) but they are only showing once late at night.

The only "IMAX" playing near me is one of those phony AMC "IMAX" theaters... of course the smaller the screen the better I guess. The blowup prints are pretty mediocre.
Are you talking about the print for Star Trek, specifically, or about blowup prints in general?

OMG -- our IMAX, where I already saw it 15 happy times. Thank you so much, msbae. I'm going right over there to their website to check it out.

I'm so excited! i havent seen in it IMAX. I just hope i dont get motion sick. That will bite the big one~

I'm planning on seeing it tonight in IMAX at the Museum of Civilization.

Yup, with IMAX farther back is better than close or medium - and I'm someone who NEVER sits near the back of a regualr theater auditorium.

I've seen it on 3 different IMAX screens, and the one in the suburban multiplex (Kerasotes) was fab - sharp as could be and the sound was tremendous. Can't wait to go again on Labor Day!

and once again i just hate on the regal imax at opry mills.
:p

knoxville is even getting but is the captial of the state...
no....

and i really dont see harry potter getting that big of a crowd still.
while there were people busy in may who didnt get to see star trek in imax.

booo.. booo..

Blowup prints in general are sub-par affairs but the DMR for Star Trek was a particularly poor effort. That press release you linked was complete horseshit. The digital intermediate for Star Trek was 2K resolution, a hair above a Blu-ray disc, half the 4K digital cinema standard.

A 35mm film frame has around 25+ megapixels of usable information on it. To suggest that the IMAX digital intermediate and DMR print is "capturing all the detail from the original" is flat out lying. Their digital re-mastering process is absolutely barbaric. It's tragic that the IMAX brand is so casually thrown around these days.

I am very thankful for a chance to see it one more time on the big screen. They could be projecting it on a brick wall with a piezoelectric speaker system and I'd still go see it again.

Jeri, im not really sure what it is, i've never been to this theater. I cant wait!!

IMAX is just a really big screen with digital projection and crystal clear digital audio.

I went to the theater at about 10 o'clock this morning and found out it was actually for 11:40 tonight. I still got a ticket anyway, just to be sure. One can never underestimate the appeal of this film. It deserves to win Academy awards out the ass.

I just got back from the theater. I'm not sure how to put all of this so, I'll just start from the beginning...

At about 8PM last night, I started getting nervous. It was like I had a big date with the woman of my dreams and I was worried I'd screw it up, despite the woman wanting to jump my bones. I knew I was going to have a blast but, the butterflies were still flying around in my stomach.

I'm amazed at how the film still keeps me engaged, interested and anxiously waiting for the next scene, despite the fact that I know what will happen.

The scene w/ the Kelvin is still just as gripping and emotionally powerful as ever. In one of the future films, the Enterprise needs to travel back through time so Kirk can meet his dad. Jimmy needs to see what kind of good stock he comes from... (Paying attention, Mr. Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci?)

The scenes with the Enterprise... oh my...

  • Her first appearance had me grinning like a kid taking the most beautiful girl in school to the senior prom. No Joke.
  • Her 'rising from the ashes' scene while coming out of Titan's atmosphere had my heart pounding like I was about to propose marriage.
  • The ship kicking the Narada's ass and escaping the singularity... Damn... I just can't describe how unbelievably cool that is on an IMAX screen.
  • The final scene of her during Spock's monologue was also indescribable.

I've said it before. I'll say it again. Gene would have been proud.

LOL! Same here. I was so bummed to find that out -- its not going to be easy for us to get to a 10:30 PM movie.

I am hoping and praying the husband will be willing to go tonight.

Its really nice to hear you still enjoyed it!

Only a handful of people showed up for the show. I'm guessing because it was so late at night.

^ Yeah, exactly. I have a 15-1/2 yr old that i am not comfortable leaving home alone that late at night. And there is no way she will come with us without kicking and screaming. Plus it will extend WAY past the husband's bedtime. He'd be snoring by 11...that would go over well!

What is really annoying is that i don't think they are using the theater at all throughout the day (for any other film)...so why run this one so late??
