STXI and STXII in 4k UHD released this week - Samsung UHD pack

Basically.

Even ROBOCOP got a remaster. PATTON got a remaster. (both sorely needed, of course.) Why not Trek?

The thing that excites me about 4K in increased color fidelity.

There's nothing stopping that with Blu-ray, except Paramount gives barely more than lip service to Trek Blu-ray transfers.
Are you referring to the first ten Trek movies in Blu-ray that got released in 2009? We all know that the Digital Noise Reduction was applied with a trowel and not a fine brush. This is why we expect a new Blu-ray release around 2016.
If they are working on it now it is really expected to do a new 4k scan of the 35mm interpositive at the very least so they can release a new blu-ray as well as a 4k UHD Blu-ray in the next year or two.
While it would be ideal I don't think we'll see a scan of these 10 Trek films from the original camera negative (OCN) in 4k.

There's no indication that there is a big enough market out there for Paramount to spend the money to remaster the original 10 films.

Much like the Deep Space Nine fans, we may have to accept that what we currently have is as good as its going to get.

No, you expect it.

Paramount's interest in Star Trek was nonexistent until JJ Abrams made them a shit-ton of money. Spending money on an extensive remaster of ten films, films which cater to a dwindling niche audience, is not something that Paramount has a history of doing.
