^ No, I believe the widescreen VHS was the theatrical cut.
Exactly, although they accidentally printed the longer-running time from the SLV on the box art, leading to confusion in reviews.

I have to ask; is this 'theatrical cut' of TUC you're all mentioning a true theatrical cut, including Kirk's line "I'm still the Captain" from when the Enterprise leaves spacedock, or not?

I can't find any other reference to this, apart from another post by you in a different thread. No online ST VI scripts seem to contain the line, not my hardcopy one (which spells the rewriiten Saavik as "Val'eris").
30 INT. BRIDGE, USS ENTERPRISE - NIGHT 30
Kirk sits comfortably with a smile on his face.
KIRK
(continuing)
Lieutenant...
Saavik faces him.
KIRK
(continuing)
... I don't care if I'm senile. If
I sit in this chair and give the
word you jump.
Spock watches.
LT. SAAVIK
Aye, sir.
KIRK
Plot a course for Kronos,
Lieutenant.
LT. SAAVIK
(startled)
Kronos, sir?
KIRK
I'm still in the chair, Lieutenant.
LT. SAAVIK
Aye, sir.
Other reactions. Kirk has taken command.

This situation reminds me of a friend who saw a premiere of ST III while interstate on vacation, then returned bewildered that the Sydney print of ST III, which she saw with us several times over the next few weeks, did not contain the little Vulcan girl telling unconscious Spock to "Live long and prosper". That line was in the script - and the girl, Katherine Blum, even gets a credit - but I've never seen the scene in a print of the movie. Nor in bonus scenes on the DVD.
It seems that sometimes one print of a film will have a slightly different cut to others, but if that version is made after the reels are made, someone has to go through them all and cut the line out. Sometimes fans "remember" a particular line as being in a movie, when in fact it was something they once saw in a trailer, a novelization, a script or a comic adaptation.
Many people say they swore they saw a scene in ST II in cinemas, of Spock telling Kirk that Saavik was half-Romulan - but that was only in the novelization and the ShoWest advance "presentation trailer". Similarly, a frame of Saavik being excused from Kirk's trial for her "condition" (ie. pregnancy) was in the comic, but not in ST IV's final prints. Ditto Kirk's ex-wife in ST:TMP, but she's only identified as Vice Admiral Lori Ciana in the novelization.
