And then claiming ST9 was better LMAO
This begs for a test of moderator reaction...
I know it's all a matter of opinion, but the original poster hasn't really commented on why he hates ST:V and why he loves ST:9.
Both movies had the same writing issues (lame jokes, cringe worthy scenes (Uhura fan dance? Data asking Worf if his boobs looked perkier?)
Both movies had the same production issues (horrible FX, unimpressive scenes, basically all due to lack of money).
What in my mind saves ST:V is how high they are trying to reach story wise. It's like a B movie with an A type story. The search for God, whatever he/it may be, touches us all. The way the trio are dealt with is oozing pure TOS'ness. I think it's the only movie that actually touched on the lives of the crew. I always enjoy watching Kirk/Spock/McCoy have a camping night. I enjoy watching Sulu and Chekov actually be friends. There's tons of little scenes like that in the movie.
ST:9 wasn't reaching at all. There is no grand theme. It's basically a bunch of aliens with ONE Federation admiral here to take some people away that BY THEIR OWN DECLARATION were capable of defending themselves, but unwilling to do it. Did at any point in the story, show that they asked for help? Picard and crew decided this on their own. If those aliens wanted the fountain of youth, why not let them live on the other side of the planet? Where they could write up a treaty to mutually stay away?
Oh, and the mind blowing realization at the end that they are.......family!! Oh so they are biologically related are they? And they were about to resort to murder of their parents, but all is forgiven at the end.
Yuck!! Again I say, which drunk writer came up with this bullshit?
He wasn't talking about Insurrection, he was talking about Star Trek 09.
