stupidest remake yet...Miss Marple, the hot babe!

Hollywood taking a real person and making a TVshow/movie with the barest links to reality? Unheard of!!!!!!

Perhaps an episode will guest star Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. :rommie: An alternate History starring alternate versions of real people is not a problem at all, but this "re-imagining" of Poe, as Temis says, is as ridiculous and inappropriate as the Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple examples we've been discussing. And a spunky female character is no problem-- there have been feminist movements throughout History-- but they seem to be going a bit too far there. Basically, this is just another version of X-Files; and Mulder was more like Poe than this character description is.

At least they haven't brought Poe into the 21st Century. :rommie:

Okay I think I'm finally coalescing around a coherent point here. :rommie:

Perhaps an episode will guest star Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter = cool.

Edgar Allan Poe, sexy young hotshot detective = uncool.

Why? Because the former isn't totally and entirely the "expected" Hollywood thing we're all sick of, and the latter is. (Miss Marple has the same problem - it's unimaginative and obvious - while I have no opinion on Sherlock Holmes, since I haven't seen it yet.)

Let's say instead, they make Poe an alcoholic, consumptive magic-weilding superhero like a 19th C Doctor Strange. That's not outside the possibilities of what Hollywood would think of, but it's not so clumsily obvious and stupid. I wouldn't object to that, so obviously the problem here is not that my standards are impossibly high. ;)

^^ Exactly. Both Lincoln and Poe as occult adventurers make sense, because this is something that's likely to happen given the conceit of a universe where the supernatural exists. But the characters have to be consistent with what we know of them for it to work, not re-imagined to the point where-- again-- the core concept is lost.

At least they haven't brought Poe into the 21st Century.
We still hope to bring you to the 21st Century, though. :p
I understand that there's disagreement with some of what I say, and I certainly don't mind being teased about it, but that doesn't really make sense, since I'm the one trying to move things forward into the 21st Century.

Also, I've been living in the 31st for most of my life.

I think they've already done the 22nd century, too. I seem to remember a kids' cartoon within the past decade that involved a bionic Holmes. (Or maybe Watson was bionic? All I remember was it looked like crap and I changed the channel.)

Perhaps an episode will guest star Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.

Just in case it hasn't been pointed out, I think it is worthwhile to mention that "Abraham" is the first name of both Bram Stoker and Doctor Van Helsing, and while it may be a coincidence, I doubt it.

^^ True. They should call him Bram Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. :mallory:

I remember that, but I never bothered to watch it.
