Stuff you simply LOVED...

I like the scenes that have already been mentioned, but need to add Spock's Captain's log right after Vulcan imploded. When Spock said there were only 10,000 left and he was now a member of an endangered species.... I sat there in horror. I still get chills.

I have to mention the launch of the Enterprise, specifically Pike's line "Punch it!" which is just so more energetic than "Engage!"... and of course the unbelievable sound effect for the warp drive. Man, that felt like Pike punching me someplace!

- Loved the score. Not just liked, I loved it.
- "Out of the chair."
- the mind-meld and Nimoy's voice-over. No one does "space is wondrous" better than he does.

And there were many more moments where I just said to myself "that's wonderful!", many of them the homages to TOS.

When Spocked turned down the offer at the Vulcan Science Academy and chose Starfleet instead. I cheered.

Yes that was incredibly cool. His "live long and prosper" sounded a lot like "fuck you all" to me, hehe. And the music connecting this scene with the next underlined that.

In my head, those words replaced the ones he said on screen in real time. I knew where he was going with those! :D

So many fantastic star trek moments in this movie! Loved it when Spock Prime meets Kirk in the cave, "I have been, and always shall be, your friend...."

i laughed pretty hard when kirk tried to get Uhura's name from spock in the transporter... Something about that scene seemed very familiar to me and i havent seen many of the TOS...

Awsome cool. Quinto pulls it off incredibly well. :techman:

The sickbay scene with Kirk and McCoy...hehe
Plus the whole getting him on the Enterprise thing....Urban and Pine just nailed those scenes!
Pike....yeah!!
I hope they do not kill him off later on!
Dunno despite all the things the nitpickers seems to enjoy....this movie was fun, brought me back to the old Trek stuff with good crew interactions....
Leonard Nimoy was a cool cool addition to this thing.
I just loved the crew....Chekov and his troubles with the clearence...hehe awesome accent, total Walter Koenig...
Sulu was great....loved that warp scene!

1. The George Kirk sacrifice to open the movie. I totally cried at that scene.

2. The title card - The giant Starfleet delta, the text Star Trek, the huge rendition of the theme - that moment was perfect.

3. The music in general - The score is great, IMHO. I like the new theme and its various implementations, I love the subtle use of TOS music when the academy shuttle leaves Riverside and then when Kirk, Spock, and Pike beam back to the Enterprise. And the use of the fuill TOS theme over the credits at the end is indeed glorious, as it was described in another thread.

4. All of the new spins on characters - Pike is made from awesomeness. Kirk is very much like the original, but going in the opposite direction - instead of "a stack of books with legs" learning how to wing it on the frontier, he's a reckless braggart learning how to work within a system. It's fascinating to see the effect having a more compassionate and supportive father has on Spock. I love Chekov the wunderkind. Uhura is finally the brilliant linguist and translator she was always said to be. Sulu acquitted himself nicely, on the platform and in command of the Enterprise. Scotty seems to be more of a comic relief character than he was originally, but at least it works, unlike the comedy in the last few TNG movies. McCoy is probably the character ith the least divergence from the original, which if there was going to be one character pretty much unchanged, McCoy would have been my pick. All of the actors nailed their characters and I can't wait to see them develop them over what I hope will be many more movies.

I loved most things mentioned in this thread.

I'd add that I LOVED the Kobayashi Maru scene.

Uhura's suppressed glee that Kirk is about to get his ass handed to him, and Kirk's attitude with the Wrath of Khan apple. Absolutely priceless.

I love Spock getting into the Jellyfish chair.

"Fascinating."

I also absolutely loved the reveal of the Enterprise. The image from that scene when it was released was fairly blah. But when you see it in live action with the music it's just freaking sick. Then the music hits again when the doors to the bridge open and that gets it's own reveal. Soooo good.

1) The sacrifice of George Kirk and the birth of James T.
2) The first meeting of Kirk and McCoy (well, really every scene with Kirk and McCoy)
3) The drill fight (best action sequence I've ever seen in Trek)
4) Kirk and Spock start working as a team, and whup some Romulan ass

I was just about to bring this up because I still hadn't seen it mentioned. What a nod to the "I don't believe in the no win scenario."
