Stuff you 'remember' wrongly........

What scenes/ lines/ visuals etc did you think existed, but now realize was just your memory playing tricks on you in TOS?

For years as a kid---after seeing Tholian Web----I was sure the Captain of the defiant who lies stangled by his chair--was an Andorian!!

Part of it was I saw it first on a tiny 13" b&w screen and thought I saw him as an Adorian and part was my expectation that they would have other Fed members as Satrship crewmembers.

Besides Spock, the Intrepid crew & Garth (who is from Izar and keeps referring to Kirk being from Earth) I can't recall any aliens as being members of a Starfllet crew.

So I guess I just wished it partially.

Any things like that happen to anyone else.

Oh, just remebered---I also thought there was a baby Horta in Vanderbergs office at the end of 'Devil.....'

I think I read that in the novelization, but turned it into a false memory.

For a while, I was convinced that DeSalle was a Lt. Commander in "Catspaw". Turns out he was still a Lieutenant.

Then there's the opposite............

seeing something early in syndication and later after they had made deeper cuts---thinking you imagined it.

When they finally came on VHS un-cut in the 80s I was like, "yes, I knew I didn't dream that!"

I had been a Trekker for 30 years before finally registering that the episode was named "The Cloud Minders" and not "The Cloud Miners". That realization was a Twilight Zone moment, lol.

Ditto for me. I'd always thought it was "The Cloud Miners" too, but the dvd's do indicate otherwise.

I've just glanced around on the net and various sites mention that the Blish Novelisation was published as Miners. I'll have to dig out mine and have a look. (Edit - The full season book reprints have it correctly as Minders)

I always thought that as well. It's one of those titles that commercials, promos, tv guide, and the like keep getting wrong. Another frequent title screw-up is "Is There No Truth in Beauty?".

"Who Mourns for Adonais?" I called "Who Mourns for Adonis" for years before learning it's pronounced "AD-oh-NY-us" and is a quote from poetic literature.

For years when I was a kid, I thought the episode set on Eminiar VII was "A Taste of Armeggadon" (rhymes with "Megatron"). I'd never heard of Armageddon in any other context, and when I finally heard the word spoken, I realized, "Hey, wait a minute -- that's what that word in the Star Trek episode is!"

This is the first time I've ever come across the "Cloud Miners" thing, though.

Growing up I had a very similar experience with the Legion of Super-Heroes comics. I knew that a legion was a large group of combatants, but had never heard the word pronounced aloud. For years--to ME--they were the "Lejjin of Super-Heroes" (short e sound stead of the correct long e).

I must surely have heard of the French Foreign Legion back then, but I guess I didn't make the connection.

The addition of a miner playing with a baby Horta, in front of the refinery (seen through the window in Vanderberg's office) in the next to final scene, was made for the new CGIed episode, according to Wikipedia. I haven't watched that CGIed episode yet.

I think that's just a rumor, You can see a screen grab of that last scene on Trekcore, and there's just two guys outside by a pipe or something.

That happened to me a lot as a kid. As an avid reader, I knew how to spell a lot of words that I'd never actually heard spoken. For a long time, I thought "finite" was pronounced with short I sounds as in "infinite," rather than long I sounds.

Also, I thought there were two synonymous words, one spelled and pronounced "subtle" and one spelled and pronounced "suttle." But one day my father was listening to one of his Sondheim albums and I was reading along on the lyric sheets, and I heard the singer say "suttle" at the point where the printed lyrics said "subtle," and I finally figured out it was just one word with a silent B.

Heh...I have a distinct memory of a comic where Sarge called Sad Sack an idiot...at that age I didn't quite grasp the word and read it as "i do it" which made not a LICK of sense in the context. :blush:

When The Motion Picture came out in 1979, I was 6 years old, and I think I might have seen a commercial on TV for it, and when they showed the big E in drydock, I thought it was a long metal tunnel that the ship was trapped in.

When I first saw ST, I was 5 years old, and I thought it was a show about a strangely shaped airplane that only flew at night. I thought "planets" were some kind of islands, and I didn't connect them with those big spheres the ship was circling. And when they talked about going to the bridge and then came through a door into a big circular room, I thought there was an actual bridge on the other side of that door, and that they crossed it to get into the big circular room. And I complained about how silly it was to name a character "Check-Off," because that wasn't a real name at all!

I did that one, too. I also thought the show's name was "Star Track," because, you see, the ship leaves a track through space.
