Studying and collecting original scripts

So while all the great info in this thread has not yet resulted in my purchasing a TOS script yet, I have acquired a number of TNG and DS9 scripts, even some first drafts, which I treasure greatly. I wonder if you good people happen to know how one would go about ascertaining the authenticity of a script for one of the movies?

Im hoping someone here can help me with some information. I recently picked up an original script of an episode which wasn’t filmed. The script is the episode called, “Tomorrow The Universe”. And it is the original typed copy, not a Xerox (but it came with a Xerox copy of the typed script). It does have some hand written notes inside and a hand written date of Jan 20 1967.

I purchased this to have William Shatner sign it. I assume this will add to the value of it. Does anyone have an idea of what this script may be worth? Any help would be appreciated.

Seriously though, there’s no “objective” value, only what the market says.

I’ve seen a revised final draft of The Trouble with Tribbles script on sale for $160.

Generally I think people overestimate the value of Trek memorabilia.

As for Shatner’s signature, while it will certainly help, the truth is he’s been selling his autograph at conventions for decades. His signature isn’t that rare ( I have 3).

I have an original script. Bought it at a con in 1973, it has the colored pages, draft markings, and notes and markings from Doohan. I think it was Tholian Web. I got it autographed at the con. Unfortunately it was (due to the colored pages) pretty up to date as to the filming, so there wasn't much different to compare with the actual episode.

For those old timers like me, remember the Weekly Reader? It was a kid's weekly magazine. Back in the early 70s they did a two part serial on the Journey to babel script. That did have some differences. Unfortunately I only have the second part now. Someone threw out the first part and I've never been able to find another copy. Back then I was a little too old for weekly reader, but I wrote in an purchased those two back issues.

Do the notes say anything interesting/coherent (if you can read his shorthand, I mean), like his opinion on a line, or how he thought he should say a line? MA would love images of those too.

Not much that I remember. He circled all his lines and sometimes made a little note next to them. The script's packed away with all my Trek zines - I have twenty yard-long tubs of zines, bought in the 70s and very early eighties, packed away in my utility building, along with everything else from my last move. So I'd have to go and dig it out.

Can someone help me post a picture? What I have is direct off the writers typewriter, on onion paper, stamped “Original” on the cover. This is not your typical script.

I brought it to Boston Fan Con this past weekend. When I brought it for Mr. Shatner to sign, his agent (?) asked me if if it was an original to which I replied it was. He flipped through it and looked at me and said, “Wow! That’s impressive!” and slid it along. Mr. Shatner signed it and I asked him to add Captain Kirk. He pulled it back and added it with no questions. He was getting as many people done before his photo ops session that I just thanked him and moved on. I took it straight over to the JSA table and had it authenticated (sticker on the inside of the cover). They too were impressed with it.

Fascinating. ;)
