Ronald D Moore worked for a while to adapt it into a TV series. Don't remember why it was abandoned.

IIRC, the WB wanted to dilute the story and script the point where it was hardly recognizable as the same concept. Both Moore and McCaffrey agreed that was better for the show not to go forward than to go forward like that.
