You don't see anything wrong with blatant plagiarism being supported, even if it's being supported by the company that now owns the property that was plagiarized?
If it’s supported by the company that owns the IP, it isn’t plagiarism.
Eragon itself - as well as the rest of the Inheritance Trilogy - was blatant plagiarism - of Star Wars, of Lord of the Rings, of Dune, and the list goes on - that never should have been published.
That fact does not change even with Disney - who now own Star Wars - deciding to promote Eragon and the Inheritance Trilogy more broadly.
Corporate-supported plagiarism is still plagiarism.
And it was written by a 15 year old kid. It's not the kids fault that he cribbed from other stuff - everything anyone writes at that age is a rip off or fan fiction. The fault lies with the people who published and then made a movie about it which, since they are now the same people who own the things he ripped off, aren't harming anyone else.
I get not being interested in it, but complaining about a 15 year old plagiarizing books/movies owned by the same corporate entity as now owns the rights to his books is pretty pointless.
Boycott Paolini's parents, publisher, agent, manager, etc. In this case, Disney is pretty blameless. Which is a weird sentence to write.

This isn't about blaming Disney for anything; it's about condemning and making fun of them for supporting and propagating a plagiarized property.
Except that Disney owns the rights to the property allegedly being plagiarized. If anything, by "propogating a plagiarized property" they're attempting to recoup their "losses" from the alleged plagerism.

Would have been interesting if Herbert had actually pursued the lawsuit he talked about every so often. At one point Lynch was helping him prepare for it. Herbert had even suggested Lucas buying the rights to Dune as a solution to a potential lawsuit. I suspect we'd now live in a world where Disney owned Dune.
Lucas making Dune. Would be an interesting project to be sure.
He'd have never made it, just owned the rights. We wouldn't have gotten the miniseries'. And then Disney would have made it.
I mean...maybe? Lucas is an interesting guy but I wouldn't put it past him to try something with it, perhaps more experimental, perhaps animated. Or, we would have nothing and it would remain unadapted.
It's anyone's guess.
Depends if this is pre or post Lynch's Dune. No way a remake would be made that quickly and after 88/89 Lucas did nothing but SW, Red Tails, and Crystal Skull.
Well, that owed far more to Lucas' personal life than anything else. I'm reading Rinzler's making of ROTJ book and that movie was stressful. Can't really fault him.
As I said, I don't know. I just know I wouldn't have minded his take on the film, or post-Lynch, Dune: Messiah by Lucas.
