See? You can't dislike the episode. LD is the BEST! You dare not think otherwise or you don't like fun!

Not everyone is loving and adoring every aspect of this episode simply because it contains Lower Decks. The audacity!

Give it a rest, bro. You're boring the hell out of us. You've made your point and then some.

I may have to look into thread banning.

You are a very literal person, aren't you dear?

More of this and you'll get a warning.

Guys and gals, it's a TV show. Some are going to like it (or select episodes), some not. That's how it goes. It's a show meant to entertain. If it doesn't, stop watching. I stopped watching two of the shows (which ones I won't say, because they failed to entertain me). That doesn't mean that they're not valid or good, it just means they didn't entertain ME.

Sometimes the entertaining part equals humor or silly times. Why not? It's a SHOW, *meant* to entertain. It's not serious business, and - in spite of what we sometimes think in our heads sometimes, isn't real.

Lighten up a bit, eh?

And a reminder about the personal stuff. Stop it. You don't want warnings and double that from me as I'm the final appeal and those warnings can add up quickly. If you can't discuss the show without getting heated, log off and talk a walk or something.

I love how Boimler was basically the viewer, bringing his own expectations of how Spock "should" act with him - and being completely weirded out by the (hilarious) Spock Smles - before coming to accept that he should just let Spock be and live his actual life (rather than the one Boimler thought he lived) and have faith that history will work out as it's supposed to. A lesson for some of us!

Really? This episode is THAT good? People are reacting, not grading. If you think this episode is good, fine, if you think it's a 10, fine. But it's 91% a 10? This episode as that perfect, flawless and fantastic? Really?

I remember some people were ranking every episode of Picard season 2 10/10 before they'd even watched them (and yes I'm sure some were ranking them 1/10 without watching too, but they weren't making posts boasting about it) - the TrekBBS grading system is not to be taken seriously, it has no credibility, it doesn't mean anything, it's fine, relax. (I went 9/10 for this.)

I rewatched some of the episode earlier. The Spock bits are even funnier second time round when you know it's coming.

Good heavens. 36 pages.

All I can say is that it did pretty much everything it needed to do. And did it well. Even the title is perfection.

Captain Pike! We missed you! Stick around, will you? Man, the scene about his dad. Is that the kind of scene we were expecting from this episode? Kudos to Mount AND Quaid!

(BTW, yesterday I watched Oppenheimer, SNW, and My Adventures with Superman. Jack Quaid is getting AROUND these days! NO I'm not watching The Boys.)

I wasn't crazy about Smiling Spock but I did really enjoy his conversation with Boimler with the very threatening undertones of "You have made Nurse Chapel sad and I cannot have that." Also Peck has the opposite of Nimoy teeth. They're perfect!

La'an making up new "don't fall in love with Alt Timeline Kirk" time travel rules was also surprisingly sweet. Too bad she can't tell Kirk. It might save him some heartache later.

It was an unexpected love letter to ENT! Who saw THAT coming? And seeing Uhura geeking out about Hoshi almost made me cry. And I don't even LIKE Enterprise.

Wonderful tie in to Ad Astra Per Aspera. If you're going to make a "thing" 57 years into a show, that's how you do it.

The SNW Enterprise looks much better animated. As a "smoothy" in modeler parlance. OTOH, they did not do Pike's hair justice.

"The secret to getting Uhura to relax is making it feel like work." Ha!

The one misstep was Chapel and Ortegas messing with Boimler. I can handle hijinks, irresponsibility, and maybe a little light-hearted meanness. But this was lots of all of those at once.

But "We have jetpacks now" was a good line. And Ortegas reacting to Boimler being the worst time traveler ever ("In the future his birthday is a holiday") was pretty wonderful. OK, it starts out rough but it gets pretty good.

Because it does what it wants to do and it does it perfectly.

Many (crazy) people have pointed out that City on the Edge of Forever is not a very good "Star Trek" episode. It's a departure. It doesn't have most of the cast for very long. It doesn't have a lot of "Star Trek" in it. But it's absolutely nails everything it's trying to do.

I loved the "Will we have jetpacks?" exchange. It's meta-upon-meta-upon-meta* humor, and unexpected.

*Maybe just meta-upon-meta. I dunno. It's an expression.

You know, I think this episode is a lot like Data's poetry: clever, but didn't really spark an emotional reaction.

Basically Boimler and Mariner were stand-ins for the fans. Specifically with the Spock stuff.

Enjoyable for sure, but not exactly impactful.

Both Christine's scene with Boimler and La'An's conversation with Kirk evoked pretty strong emotional reactions for me. So did Boimler and Pike talking about taking time with those we care about while they're still with us, now that I think about it.

That may be Pike's best scene to date in the entire series. Even moreso than the history lesson about warfare and his inspirational speech on Kiley 279. We learned about his Dad and their relationship and he actually spent moments reflecting on his relationship with this crew and vice versa.

Last episode I was Bemoaning how little of Pike we've seen this season (Not counting Lotus Eaters when that wasn't "our" Pike). I think the fact that Kirk wasn't there made this episode better for me, because it felt like through Mariner and Boimler, it did address my concerns about the lack of Pike this season. We got to see another side to him leading up to the accident, and it built on what came before.

He had some scenes talking about his dad (parents?) on Disco. I gotta admit that was the first time I sat up and said "Wait. What? THIS could be interesting."
