strange design project

I have a strange project for my design class. i have to write about the day of a known character from tv or literature. after that we have to design an alarm clock for them.
i think i want to use a star trek character. i know trek really well, so i think it may be easier. Picard is my favorite character, but i dont think he would be a good candidate for a new alarm clock. the two choices that i think could work are Spock and a generic Klingon warrior, but i wish i had dome better ideas.

I imagine Worf doesnt like to be woken up, so you could design an indistrutable alarm clock, one that could even wake up an angry Klingon! :klingon:

I think TNG did an episode about "a day in the life of..." I think it was about Riker's day, but not sure. Other than that, Patrick Stewart would have a fairly scheduled day as captain of a large ship like Enterprise-D. Remember when they had Captain Picard Day?
It may give you a place to start. Good luck on the project. :vulcan:

You could just glue a bunch of random electronic components to an alarm clock and say it was assimilated. Plus 'a day in the life of a borg' could be interesting: regenerate (visiting Unimatrix Zero), then participate in the assimilation of some random species, or a war vs. species 8472. the possibilities are nearly endless

then again, borg don't really use alarm clocks, they just complete regeneration cycles

well, the people in my class are not too familiar with star trek, at least not most of them. the alarm clock also has to be buildable.

i was thinking about making one for Spock because he would not want to admit that he needed one. the alarm would have to be able to wake him up, but no one else. it could also be disguised as something else. i like the idea of making a stealthy alarm clock because it may allow me to use something other than a loud noise as an alarm.

waking up a klingon would be fun because it could involve some sort of physical task to turn off the alarm.

mostly i just want to make something that would work better than the alarm i have. ultimately i would like it to be able to wake up my roommate, a nearly impossible task.

you could just bring a tiny computer chip to class and say it's data's alarm clock (internal chronometer), since it would be built into his positronic brain supposedly.

Put a normal alarm clock in a block of ice and say it's Kahn's alarm clock....frozen to wake him up on 200 years.

wow that is indeed a strange project. the day in the life thing seems fine. it's the "design an alarm clock" that makes me go 0_o lol. sounds interesting.

it is an industrial design course, so for me the strange part is the day in the life thing. i did not expect to write vignettes in a course about design.

In almost any design process, you're designing for somebody. So you have to know their needs and likes in order to produce something which fits their needs and likes.

Yes do Spock. I'd like to see what you come up with. :)

If you look back to the TOS episodes, or in the original Tech Manual, look at the Vulcan Lyre, or the Meditation Lantern. This might be the kind of look and material you want to design it in? Or maybe use the IDIC symbol? French curves at the ready :)
