Yeah, it was an area that was somewhat useful early on, and the Aegis set was the height of it, but they added in DIL requirements that killed it.
Plus they haven't updated the craftable loot table in so long that power drift has made almost everything there useless anyway. Almost nothing there worth the time and effort, and you can get better stuff out of random drops or cheap on the exchange now.
Rocketeer is right, though; if you want to complete the crafting ranks just to do it, stand there and help people craft things. You gotta build up your skills a bit to start, but from there, should be able to get to the end by making the mid-range stuff for new people. Or just look at the exchange, see what's selling well at the moment, and make a few of that item to sell and get your money back. Buy more materials, make some more. Don't make anything that uses DIL (unreplicatable materials), but craft the best selling item right below that level. Usually mid-level ship weapons, and quantum torps.
