Well, name is your character's name, handle is your user's account name, by writing it in said format you can receive invites and messages.
For some things like mails the account handle (@Timelord_Victorious) is enough. Fleet invites are character specific and require the character's name.

Name is whatever you named the specific character, the handle is the username you use to log in.

Not quite. The login name is not the same as user name. Please don't post your log in name anywhere. There have been cases of account hacking and giving people half the log in data is a serious security risk.

Mine isn't and I think it was not even possible to pick the same one (it's been more than 2 years, so I can'T really be sure).

the reason for that is security, so someone can't simply pick up your name in zone chat or something and effectively guess your password to rob you clean.

And it's not just virtual stuff.

Imagine someone hacking into your account and buying a 1000 master keys which he then transfers into his account through 2 or 3 fleet banks or the exchange and then sells them for a small fortune (a real one).

And you are broke in real life...

Unless you pay by credit card, which I think is required. Then its fraud, easy to fight, and doesn't cost you. Hassle, but not money.

Risk is to your EC in the bank, which Cryptic has fought replacing when stolen. CP is through them, and they can control that transaction, and have been fixing when hacked, I believe...

Obviously, just pointing out that while it might take 2 minutes on the phone to sort out, your assertation about being broke in real life over this was nonsense.

Unless the signup has changed, there was a warning about using the same player name as your account name. So "Rocketeer_7" is my player name and it's much different than my account name.

Someone mentioned changing names. You can change a character's name by buying a token from the C-store. I think you can change your account name, but it would be a pain. You'd probably have to explain to Cryptic/PWE that you suspected that someone was trying to hack it.

I started a new thread for fleet recruitment and discussion of fleet matters with a FAQ section in the first post that should give all necessary informations on how to join the fleet, how to get the fleet uniform, how to join the fleet chat, etc.
