STO Enterprise F

Was it designed by Escher and Giger?

No, it was clearly designed by their love child who in addition to absorbing their bizarre traits is also a dadaist. Seriously, I can almost see Escher, but Giger?

The needs of an MMO make this bridge appear far bigger than it actually should be. I think it'd look far better if scaled appropriately for a television/movie vessel and not the ghastly triple sized versions they need for an MMO.

In addition to that, that is the nicest looking big screen TV ever. Sojourner, you need to grab a stack of cheap blurays and meet me on the set of this bridge later today. I suggest Star Wars for the shits and giggles. I'll bring the pizza.

I actually think from a television/movie perspective, the design as is allows for a large number of different camera angles as well as more areas in general to shoot scenes in there. Sorta like the Ops set from DS9.

Pretty, but also weirdly lonely with those open spaces around it. And that skylight looks like it's waiting to fall down and kill everybody.

I dont like the virtually matte black ceilings. Might as well have made it all windows.

Also, the filled in horseshoe around the Captains chair really obscures most of the critical workstations on the bridge.

I've been flying the new specialty Odyssey vessel is STO's test realm. I've got to say, the Tactical version combined with the Chevron Seperation (They refer to its secondary hull as a chevron and not a saucer) from the engineering variant is an impressive beast to fly. And I'm quickly getting accustomed to her appearance.

She's not as beautiful as the Vektorprise, but... I think she will do nicely.

Less wasted space than a typical STO bridge, which is generally football stadium sized. :P I like the inclusion of a transporter room far from the central action, and whatever is in that forward pit that it isolated from everything else (the earlier pictures didn't show what was down there, I was hoping a couple couches and an espresso machine).

The only thing I don't like is all the semi-transparent holographic displays. They look futuristic and all, but in practice what's the point of seeing the bulkhead behind the display? It's just distracting, especially when it's an angled partial wall. traditional consoles rule!

I've never played an MMO, so obviously I don't understand the games mechanics, but this discussion does urge me to ask the question, "Why ARE the sets so friggin' huge?!" I see a recreation of the TOS bridge that is moderately accurate except for the floorspace that has been increased by a factor of five! I get the impression I'm seeing a digital adaptation of the animated episode, "The Terratin Incident" (the one that presented an incredibly shrinking crew). Is it to keep the various figures and their "fields of influence" from overlapping each other and thus causing control issues?

Sincerely,

Bill

^No, it has to do with the "camera" angles that you view the game from. If the sets were closer to true scale the typical game view would be outside the walls of the room.

I don't like how dark most of the colors are. A Federation bridge in my opinion should always be brighter and have a light atmosphere to it. And no Federation bridge should ever look like it was designed by Giger.

And I'm not sure about the holographic displays. There should be physical controls in case the holographic tactile sensors or displays get damaged or go down.

Seems like an awful lot of wasted space, especially the super wide "running track" around the central bridge. Also, the raised area with the command chairs, do they play shuffleboard there during quiet time?

It's because the game is an MMO, people like to play zoomed way the hell out. To make an authentic version of this bridge would be shrunk somewhat in certain dimensions to make it conform to actual reality.

It's also why Corridors are twenty feet wide and tall and the crews mess is the size of a house.
