STO : Crystalline Entity

There's a lot of anger, frustration and misinformation about this particular mission.
I was confused myself, so I did some searching and here is the deal. (credit for all the info to the Ops)

"There are three types of fragments:

Crystal Fragments: These are spawned all the time. They chase you and do ~5k damage. Kill them, kite them, whatever.

Large Crystal Fragments: These are spawned when the Entity reaches 30% HP. They deal ~12k damage and spawn three Smaller Crystal Fragments when they impact something.
This can be either a ship or mines, so do not use mines and do not get hit. It is completely, 100%, absolutely OK to shoot and destroy these otherwise.
People who claim that killing Large frags will heal the Entity are stupid and aren't actually paying attention when it happens. You will see three Small frags being formed after the Large dies, but they will despawn immediately.
Their brief existence is a graphical or coding error. They are not real and do not effect anything.
Kill Large fragments all you like. It's fine.

Small Crystal Fragments: These are spawned when a Large fragment impacts a player ship or mines.
They will attempt to return to the Entity and heal it for ~1% of its total HP.
Stop whatever you are doing and shoot these when you see them. As stated above, they are only spawned for real when a Large frag impacts something.
Killing a Large frag will only create FAKE Small frags which instantly disappear.
"

The only other needed piece of info is.........
NEVER EVER EVER USE MINES AFTER CE REACHES 30% !!!!!!!
Another useful & important piece of information is to use Scramble Sensors if you have it. The more the better and prevents the CE from shooting fragments.

Also, youtube video where CE is defeated :

No, it's not broken.

People just can't coordinate & work together in the correct way to defeat it.

Played this last night. It took two hours before everyone put together what they had to do. Frustrating as hell, but I finally beat the damned thing!

I tried last night, it was working. The CE was regenerating a few times but never above 50% instead of back to 100% in a few seconds.

The problem was there were few ships fighting to begin with and they kept dropping out until only two were left at which point even I gave up.

Id like to organize a real Armada only event to fight the Entity.

I f we can get 20 members together at the same time the instance would be ours alone.

We would go in with 4 full teams.

Each team consisting of 2 two leading ships and 3 wingman.

right before going in we could do a real mission briefing so absolutely everbody knows what he has to do and then the entity won't even survive the dreaded 30% healh mark. ;)

The fleet is large enough to pull this off. just tell us if and when you are able to join.

I tried the CE for the first time a short while ago. Got my butt stomped. Not nearly enough people playing.

How many are needed to defeat it?

A full instance (20 People max for a fleet engagement of this type) of people who either have some clue, or a willting to LISTEN to the person that has a clue equals the best chance for success. (Got within 5% myself, but have yet to defeat the CE post beta).

I researched a bit. There appears to be a real proven strategy.
The entity has (at the moment) a real weakness.
Apply sensor scramble to it and something quite strange happens.
Every single shard will simply stop moving.
So with enough ships in the fight who have this skill, maybe even ships who have this skill more than once and whith the ability to coordinate you can shut down the entity permanently. The shards will still spawn and explode by collision but it should be infinietely easier to avoid them if everybody keeps his distance.
Also the large shards spawn the small ones which will make a bee lineback to the entity and heal it about 1% of its full health each, so it's 3% health regeneration if all three small shards one collision with a big one produces make it back to the CE.

The CE also has natural regeneration rate which should be dealt with by NOT putting DPS of the entity.
Keep your DPS maxed out phaser arrays locked on it permanently except when you have to shoot down small shards.

The problem yesterday was it spawned so many large shards, which all managed to explode. The small shards are fast too. It was pretty frustrating.

Excellent. My other Science BO has Sensor Scramble 1 as a skill (i think) so I'll assign her next time instead of Parker.

Who would be up for a fleet go at this tonight?
