STID "tracking" for $85-90 million opening [U.S. box office]

Box Office Mojo just posted its 12-day estimate for STID and for comparison, the 12-day total for ST09 (only domestic):

ST09 = $155,536,131

STID = $155,827,000.

I am in a non-Trek family, but my 10 year-old said she'd actually see it with me, again. As we were going to the theater, my 13 year-old kept grumbling about how she was being dragged, and she wanted to see "Gatsby", instead. She walked out a little down on the movie (even though she seemed to be enjoying it), and to my astonishment, my wife, who only liked TVH and otherwise wants nothing at all to do with Trek, said to her, "Hon, I don't know what you mean, that was actually a very good movie." I couldn't believe my ears.

Well, if Will Smith's latest son-promoting vehicle is a big turd, STID may have good legs until Supes comes out...
I've seen the After Earth trailer with each of my four STID viewings, and genuinely, I've heard "not interested" or "looks boring" type comments from nearby audience members every time. I have a feeling it's going to have a huge "MEH" factor, and won't be a fly in Trek's ointment.

I'd like to see a movie in 2015 and then a television series in 2016 to mark the anniversary... at the risk of oversaturating the market again...

so they can sell 50th anniversary issues of Entertainment weekly?

I don't think its really gonna matter

last year was the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man too

Well, I think 2016 would be the likely target release for the next film anyway. The anniversary is just one factor that could help the marketing. If it doesn't make a difference then c'est la vie.

STID 10 day US total is now ahead (just) of ST09 total though of course Memorial weekend waa ST09 3rd weekend but still nice to see that ;)

I went and saw a regular 2D showing Sat., 3rd time to see the film here in Lex, KY. I would say theater was about 1/3rd full, everyone seemed to be having a good time, even heard an 8 or so year old girl say she like it alot, but liked Ironman better....oh well, it's a start.

A little girl into Iron Man and Star Trek? Sounds like a win to me! :D

Is there really any advantage in that though?
The marketing for Skyfall made very good use of the 50th anniversary of Bond, so, yes, there's a potential advantage in it.

Yeah, I think they'll do some heavy marketing for the 50th.

Trek didn't do much for its 40th...off the air and no movie for another three years....

So the other long runner Sci-Fi show, DW didn't do much for it's 40th anniversary either off the air, though by that time I think it had been leaked that it was coming back. I think dear old AUntie Beeb planned to make the offical announcment on it's 40th Birthday.

What world markets is STID still to open in?

Korea, China, Japan...Any others?
IMDB has the release dates here. I can't vouch for if they're all correct or if that's a complete list, though.

Revised estimates from Box Office Mojo for the 4-day weekend:

Friday - $10,001,000
Saturday - $14,420,000
Sunday - $12,863,000
Monday - $9,716,000
