Steven Moffat is on twitter (temporarily)

I can't remember the last time I watched that thing. Quite possibly before I got into Big Finish. Paul McGann was always my favorite part of the film but I wonder how it'll look after listening so many stories that properly utilized him. Hell, same for Eric Roberts just recently.

(Today's Tweetalong was the two New Earth episodes but it seems like that didn't garner much attention)

Next Tweetalong is "World Enough and Time"/"The Doctor Falls" on June 6 at 1800 BST with Steven Moffat, Pearl Mackie, Matt Lucas, and Rachel Talaly:

Final lockdown live last Saturday was canceled

In light of protests taking place around the world against police brutality towards the Black community that was inflamed by the U.S. killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis, Minnesota, police officers, Doctor Who Magazine writer and BBC Radio editor Emily Cook announced via Twitter that this Saturday's final Doctor Who Lockdown global rewatch has been canceled. In her statement, Cook stated that the decision was made "out of respect for the feelings of Doctor Who fans around the world." As Cook reasons, "It doesn't seem appropriate at this time."

That's completely understandable. At least we have one last special feature to look forward to.

As it was record probably very recent it's very current and topical.

That's a beautiful send-off for this series.

"Who needs a sunset? Give me a good black hole every time."

Don't blame him. He's not wrong in that tweet either.

His whole account is no longer there. He deleted it because, as the thread title reminds us, he was only on Twitter for the watachalongs.

The last tweet was a gently comic critique of how awful Twitter is as a form of social media. Which is sort of ironic, given that it was what made the watchalongs in their current form possible. Personally I think that people who see Twitter as an unmitigated hellscape just haven’t learned how to structure their own participation in it to limit exposure to the terrible people (and in some cases to mitigate their own terrible instincts).

I've sometimes thought I'm hampering my promotional game as an author by staying off Twitter, but I've just heard so many horror stories about writers or actors getting harassed. You may have a point about limiting exposure, but I imagine it might be harder to do that if you're a public figure who wants to use Twitter to actively draw attention to your work, especially when that work embraces progressive and inclusive themes.

In light of today's big announcement, Emily Cook has decided to revive the Doctor Who tweetalong, probably as a one-off.

She's running a poll to decide which two-parter to do but it looks like it'll be "The Empty Child/"The Doctor Dances" (as it should be!) and it'll happen next Saturday, August 15 at 7 pm (presumably BST).

Probably won't have any celebrity guests but who knows what might happen...
