Today, at the age of 91, Broadway legend, Stephen Sondheim has died. Fortunately for the rest of us, his music will live on. You've finished the hat, sir, and we'll always be grateful. No word yet on when Broadway will dim its lights.

I was very sad to read that he passed away. Such an incredible talent--songwriter, composer, artist--he did it all. The American musical would have gone the way of the Dodo if not for him. He's won an Oscar, a Pulitzer, eight Grammy Awards, eight Tony Awards, a Kennedy Center honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and yet I still think he was underappreciated.

Though I believe the movie version of "America" is superior (you can do a lot more in a movie) the stage version is amazing too.

So weird,. I watched “tick tick BOOM!” last night in which there is a depiction of Sondheim. I thought, how fortunate we were that this giant of musical theater was still with us. Sad news to have awakened to this morning. The man was the writer of some of the most brilliant musicals and composer of many of the most beautiful songs of the 20th century. So sad.

RIP.

West Side Story is one of my favourite musicals, and I love the original movie with Nathalie Wood. So powerful was its message and its entertainment , at least to me, that even the trailer for the soon-to-premiere remake by Steven Spielberg made me react emotionally. I can't wait for its premiere in a few weeks. Thank you for sharing it with us, Mr. Sondheim.

No one is you and
No one can be.
But no one is me, George,
No one is me!
