Stephen King's The Stand Series Might Head To CBS All Access

Given that The Kid expunged from the book (and his reinclusion in the extended edition) doesn't seem to add that much to the story behind a bit of exposition on Trash Can Man's background.

Maybe a 51y,o actor would be a bit too old for the role, but for some reason I got the impression he wasn't that young but then again haven't ready the book recently.
I've never read the book, I was just going by his name.

I've never read the book, I was just going by his name.

The name is more of a western-esque/james dean rebel kind of allusion than anything to do with age. He's a fast talking, stubborn, domineering 'free spirit' (who also happens to be a total sociopath and fatally reckless).

So this starts tomorrow.

I've tried to find out where it's playing in Canada. Apparently it's not, not on TV nor on Crave.

I Watched the first episode, and I enjoyed it. It wasn't anything amazing, but I enjoyed it enough to stick with it.

I enjoyed the first ep, but I'm not convinced yet that presenting it with a jumbled chronology was the best decision. Maybe it will come into play in later eps, but so far it just feels like they did it because they could. (Or they were worried people wouldn't be drawn in quickly enough with a straight telling.)

64% isn't what I'd call a bad RT score thus far.
It's 54% and audience score is 29%... Seems to be a similar quality to the new Twilight Zone.
Other than Picard, has CBSAA had a critical hit? The good fight maybe?

EDIT: I guess Discovery gets decent critical reviews, but slammed very heavily by haters.

The audience scores are from the people pissed Amber Heard is in this...and for some reason those same folks complain about Whoopi Goldberg a lot these days too. Dunno why.

As for the actual critic reviews, the negative ones are saying the story just doesn't have the impact it once had and feels too topical for the modern time.

I will say I don't think Whoopi Goldberg was a great choice for Mother Abigail, at least not without more of an effort to make her look older. Based on the trailers, at least. For a centenarian she appeared to have aged remarkably well.

The Mother Abigail in the 90s version didn't look over 100 either, IIRC.

I don't know what a person over 100 years old looks like per se, but I found the prosthetics for Ruby Dee more convincing, from what I've seen.

People age differently from one another. You should look up Ann Nixon Cooper. She was 107 when she died and didn't look far off where they have Whoopi.

I'm not a fan of Stephen King, nor have I read The Stand, though I did see the ABC TV adaptation from twenty years ago. I thought it gave an appropriate hook and the casting was well done, especially for Harold Lauder. Amy (my wife) seemed to like it and she is a huge fan of King and The Stand.

It was interesting enough for me to come back next week.

Might just be to differentiate it from the original mini-series.

Here's an interview from Josh Boone about why he told the story of The Stand non-linearly:

Whoopi hate is at least partially due to some qanon madness.
