STEAM Summer Sale 2012

Trine 2's still on that Flash Sale for a couple more hours. Not sure about international conversions, but it's only $3.74 here, which is insane.

Hmm....Skyrim for £17.37.....*strums fingers*

Do I go for it, or hold out for a flash sale? Anyone???

I've picked up Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition for $10, Trine 2 for $3.74, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition for $5, and a friend gifted me Skyrim while it was on sale for just shy of $30. (Awesome friend.)

Got Metro 2033 and Mirror's Edge for $5 a pop. I think I'm good unless they put something I can't even think of up for 75% off.

Just picked up both 'The Longest Journey' games and 'Super Meat Boy' for a few quid each.

Bloody hell that game is merciless! I managed to die 150 times in 20 minutes and on that last level of the first chapter I think I achieved a bizarre state of relaxation...kind of like Fry after 100 cups of coffee.

I'm now toying whether or not it's worth getting Witcher 2 for £12...probably not. I've not even installed the first one yet (got it for free in the Xmas give-aways) and I just got Skyrim. I'm sure it'll be in this year's Xmas sale. ;)

Stalker: Call of Priypat ;) £3.49

So tempted to get "The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition" and Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

So far, I've picked up:

* Dogfighter
* Universe Sandbox
* Fable The Lost Chapters
* SpaceForce2 Rogue Universe (NA)
* Space Rangers 2: Reboot
* AquaNox
* Dungeons
* From Dust
* Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
* Crusader Kings II
* E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy
* Cities XL 2012
* Carpe Fulger Bundle
* Medieval II: Total War Gold
* Fable III Collection

Also gifted to my girlfriend:

* Dear Esther
* A Valley Without Wind

Dear Esther's interesting but I finished it in a few hours. But then for £1.75 it's still a bargain. Bob's got me playing World of Goo and Limbo since I'm new to this steam thingy. Both brilliant fun.

Stalker: Call of Priypat ;) £3.49

So tempted to get "The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition" and Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition

If you liked the first three Fallout games, you *love* New Vegas. Not so much for the main quest line (which is crap) but because it takes the quality of writing from the first two and applies it to the game-play of the third (with some welcome mechanical tweaks.) The DLC is fairly hit and miss though.

Only ever played Fallout 3 GOTY and I loved it, put in over 60 hours (still not done all DLC) so I look forward to cracking open New Vegas.

I picked up Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition for the same price point during a flash sale the other day. Excellent deal. I strongly recommend it.

This is a really tight month for me so I passed on The Witcher 2, but I grabbed the first game. It's on sale for a measly $2.49 right now.

'Beyond Good and Evil' is on sale for £1.74. I'd buy it myself if I didn't already own three copies of it.* Anyone who has not played it, or never heard of it, now would be the time. Seriously. One of the best games ever.

* Before anyone asks: each copy is on a different platform. Originally blind bought it years ago for the PS2, but it was my brother's machine and when he sold it on, I eventually went found a cheep copy for the PC. Then just a few weeks ago I went and got the HD edition for my new PS3.

Then you'll *really* like New Vegas. FO3 pales in comparison IMO. My favourite bit of the whole game takes place in one of the vaults and has nothing to do with the main plot at all. I won't spoil anything, but it was the most engrossing immersive storytelling experience I've seen in a game since Half-Life 2.

You might want to consider checking out the originals too. I think they're on sale for something like £3.50 each. If you don't mind the late 90's graphics and the isometric layout they're both a lot of fun. You'll even suddenly get a lot of funny references and callbacks that cropped up in FO3 & FONV. ;)

So far I've picked up

  • Fallout: NV - Ultimate Edition
  • Renegade Ops
  • Frozen Synapse
  • Borderlands
  • Deus Ex
I know it isn't a huge amount because money is still really tight at the moment...but this should keep my gaming urges sated until I can afford more. Hopefully by Christmas time.

I've got a ton more games that I've bought in the past via steam but this is my current haul for the sale.

Just picked up a few more. My running total for this sale stands at: -

  • Trine
  • Trine 2
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Super Meat Boy
  • The Longest Journey
  • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
  • Bulletstorm
  • Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link & Tactical Enhancement Pack
Wow. I just looked at my Steam community profile (normally don't bother with the thing) and my total number of games is 149! Granted over a dozen of those are "junk" games that I didn't actually buy (Counter-Strike 2, TFC, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch etc.) or part of the THQ & GTA packs I bought a few years back (still haven't played a lot of them) and the Telltale games count as one game per episode. Still, that's a huge library, especially considering for the first few years I had HL2 installed I kept Steam permanently in offline mode.

At the risk of blasphemy, I wonder how differently we'll view Origin in 4-8 years...probably not that differently. ;)
