STC Episode 6 (news and speculation)....

We're still digesting and discussing Ep. 5 "Devided We Stand," but here were can talk about what we might get in Ep. 6.

My, aren't we impatient?

Which, to me, speaks of our general satisafaction with STC and our interest to get to "what's next?"

...James Kerwin mentioned today that Greg Dykstra (Pixar character designer and Dr. Heath in Divided We Stand) is the writer for Episode 6. Not sure that's been announced previously.
Will he be the writer or a writer for the episode?

Also STC has announced they will soon be revealing guest stars (or a guest star) for Ep. 6.

We also know they are progressing with the construction of their Main Engineering set. So maybe we'll get to see it next episode?

Will we get another bottle episode or another "off ship" (so to speak) story? Are we going to get more callback fodder for (some of) us to rag on? Will Kirk experience another mental delusion? Will McKennah be used in an actual Doctor like capacity? And will she finally get out of those high-heeled boots and into proper ones?

We just saw Dr. MBenga (and I liked it) so can we look forward to other past crew members showing up? We haven't seen Mr. Kyle for example or Lt. DeSalle.

Any thoughts on what we would like to see next episode or in the near future?

How in the world are they able to crank out these episodes so fast? And quality, to boot!

I have a vague recollection of the engineering set being on-course for use in episode 6. The last update video showed the set was pretty damn close to being done.

As I understand it much (if not all) of the principle photography for Ep. 5 was done at the same time as Ep. 4, so that would greatly help get Ep. 5 out faster.

If they could continue that practice it would greatly speed things up. That assumes, of course, having scripts ready early.

While I admire their speed, I hope that they continue to bake in time enough to really revise scripts because it feels a lot like some first or even second drafts are being filmed. Some of the ideas, plot points, dialogue, etc. feels undercooked.

Tribbles?

To quote Arne Darvin (still doing time in a Fed prison).

"I hope I never see those miserable furry things ever again!"

My hope is that the Continues crew will take a note from the more vocal critics and utilize a decent script editor during their writing process to avoid the lackluster results the last two stories have been.

Ditto on the story editing.

Strangely enough, the touchy-feely stuff with Kirk getting conked on the head and imagining past loves in "The White Iris" felt like an episode of Doctor Who to me.

And I wish Spock had more presence.

In all fairness we don't know whether they have a story editor or not. I, at least, have no idea of their process regarding the writing.

We do know that at least a couple or so of those connected to STC do lurk here and even post comments every so often. So we can assume they might take some of the remarks, observations and criticisms (as well as praise) made here back to the rest of the group.

A forum such as the TBBS wouldn't be a bad source for generally reasonable criticism. And I think it's certainly more even handed than the unabashed gushing praise found on STC's FB page.

James Kerwin is credited as story editor in both White Iris and Divided We Stand

Dave Galanter is listed as story editor for Farragut's the Crossing...I have a feeling that script is really gonna pop...

And Marc Cushman has been listed previously as well as a "script consultant."

And, with respect to both Cushman and Kerwin, both episodes were severely lacking when it came to the writing.

Then I think someone from outside the group could be beneficial.

My experience with fanfilm makers is that some seek out feedback, then don't actually act on it.

That sounds a lot like they enjoy hearing the positives but try to ignore the negatives no many how accurate or fair minded.

Re: Spock: I mentioned it before but I recently re-watched "That Which Survives" after several years and had forgotten how witty Spock was in command. He had this urgency and was actually hounding his crew. I also wish they would set up some banter and digs between Spock and McCoy. They are really playing it soft between those two. I think Huber and Haberkorn can really pull it off if given the chance. I left some of that feedback and they seemed to "like" it, so maybe we'll see something more.

A lot of dilettantes seem to think they are experts and ignore even really sound advice because they think they know better. Usually they don't.
