I'm on a two parter in Ultraman Dyna (Episodes 35 and 36) and they have pulled a (to use a Power Rangers reference) "Trakeena's Revenge". Basically, its a crossover between the current show (in this case Dyna) and the last show (Tiga), where the previous show's cast barely gets any screen time so the story can focus on really annoying kids that have no reason to be in the story. I mean, Tiga/Daigo wasn't there anyway, but pretty much the rest of Tiga's GUTS crew was there, and most of them are basically just cameos and only one or two actually have any significant interaction with anyone from Super GUTS.

This is slightly better then the Power Rangers LostGalaxy/Lightspeed rescue crossover that I mentioned, because at least the kidsin this aren't important to saving the day and there is a decent amount of Tiga nostalgia stuff included, but its still really annoying. Even if some of the Tiga supporting cast didn't have time for a full appearance, the people making Dyna could have done the two parter with a lot more GUTS/Super GUTS interaction by removing the pointless kids and giving their screen time to the actors who had roles bigger then a cameo.

Well, Ultraman 80 is turning out to be one of the better Showa seasons, with some interesting science fiction premises and moral-dilemma stories and character drama, at least compared to some other seasons. But one odd little quirk has cropped up.

In the first part of the season when Takeshi was splitting his time between being a junior high teacher and a UGM member, there was a supporting character called Non-chan, a pretty, somewhat airheaded member of the school faculty, the least significant of the recurring faculty-member characters. She abruptly vanished along with the rest of the high school cast after they dropped that part of the show without comment following episode 12. But about 8 episodes later, on his way out of the UGM control room, Takeshi ran into a woman in the corridor played by the same actress (Noriko Shirasaka), initially thinking she was Non-chan, but she turned out to be the new UGM weather forecaster, and Takeshi reflected on the coincidental resemblance, and that was all we saw of her in the episode. And in each of the three episodes I've seen since, she just passes by briefly to give Takeshi a perky weather report, then vanishes from the rest of the episode, having no impact on the story whatsoever. I have no clue what the point of this is. Was she a singing idol or gravure model that the producers wanted to showcase? Was she related to a producer? Was she sleeping with a producer?

Unfortunately, I can't find much of anything about her online, or any explanation for this. Her weather girl character doesn't even have an entry in the Ultraman Wiki, and Shirasaka doesn't have an IMDb page. I'm often surprised how sparse the online info about the Ultraman franchise often is compared to Kamen Rider or Super Sentai, given that Ultraman has been shown on American TV considerably more often than KR ever has.

In the dub trailer it sounds like they hired Hugo Weaving but I doubt he'd voice something like this

Okay, one more episode in, and it looks like Ultraman 80 might be setting up the weather girl Yuri as a love interest for Takeshi, since another UGM member remarked that they were "close." If so, though, it's a very clumsy way to do it. At least his previous love interest, Kyoko-sensei, had an actual role in the stories. (And it's weird that his current love interest is an acknowledged exact double for a colleague of his previous love interest.)

In episode #26 of "Ultraman Mebius", GUYS Japan HQ, the Phoenix Nest, gets a flight mode:

New Hero: Ultraman Decker

The Giant of Light that protagonist Kanata Asumi transforms into.

His basic form is called the Flash Type, and he can Type Change into the physically powerful Strong Type and the supernaturally powerful Miracle Type.

Height: 55 meters

Weight: 45000 tons (same for all three forms)

The new TV series Ultraman Decker is a story of new hero Ultraman Decker who never gives up the fight, and the coming-of-age drama of the young adults in the newly-reformed expert team GUTS-Select as they grow together as a team, moving ever forwards to a future filled with hope. Following last year’s popular Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga, the new series Decker is set several years later in a time when humanity’s frontier spirit for exploring new worlds has pushed further them into space.

The new hero Ultraman Decker is a Giant of Light who appears on Earth after a sudden attack by “Sphere,” a swarm of mysterious floating space objects. He imparts his light to Kanata Asumi, the newest member of GUTS-Select, newly reformed by the Terrestrial Peaceable Union (TPU). Searching for whatever awaits him when he pushes past his limits, Kanata uses Decker’s light to face up to his many enemies.

Playing the role of protagonist Kanata is Hiroki Matsumoto, winner of the Junon Super Boy Contest in 2018. As his first leading role, he brings a fresh and endearing charm to the role of bright and kindhearted young Kanata, who goes above and beyond to tackle every task in his way. With the new transformation item “Ultra D Flasher in hand, he transforms into Ultraman Decker!

This year marks 25 years since the popular Heisei-era series Ultraman Dyna was on-air, and its essence is brought into the new series Ultraman Decker. Please look forward to it.

Synopsis

The threat of monster attacks fades, and the Earth seems once again at peace. Humanity turns its eyes to the stars and heads to space, while its monster attack countermeasures continue to shrink.

It is in this new age when “Sphere,” an invading swarm of mysterious floating space objects, begin to attack Earth. Humanity loses contact with space and becomes a lone star. Their attack throws our hero Kanata Asumi’s peaceful life into chaos. Destruction spreads before his eyes and a giant monster appears. With no heed for his own safety, Kanata jumps in front of the enemy and transforms into Ultraman Decker.

“I gotta do it now!”

Having discovered the light of Decker within himself, Kanata pledges to protect humanity’s daily life and joins the expert team GUTS-Select, newly reformed as an Anti-Sphere squad. As its newest member, Kanata and his young unseasoned team stand against these great enemies, together.

So they're even bringing back the main villains of Dyna, the Spheres. And continuing in the same universe as the previous series after a jump of a few years, same as Dyna.

I'd been assuming that "starscape" pattern around the crystal in Decker's head would be some kind of swirly visual effect suggesting a portal into some other dimension (like the Sorceress's wings in Netflix's CGI He-Man series), but it looks like it's just painted/printed on the surface of the mask.

"coming of age drama", "young adults". Oh god, its Ultraman Ginga all over again :barf: The post then mentions "Kanata and his young unseasoned team", so there will probably be multiple very annoying characters. At this rate, people will be begging for "Smile Smile" to come back by the time Decker is through.

Ultraman Z feels like it was made by a completely different company at this point. But, its not like I don't have a bunch of Ultraman Blu Rays/DVDs to watch, and more being released, so even if I don't like Decker I definitely won't be missing Ultraman in general.
