In this week's episode #22 of "Mirrorman", a young orphan about to undergo surgery asks Mirrorman to bring him a moon rock, just as the Invaders send a monster to attack mankind's moonbase:

This week's entry in the 55th Anniversary Campaign is episode #11 of "Ultraman Gaia", in which the city of Tokyo suffers a water shortage, which is obviously monster-related:

Trigger this week played to its strengths, meaning big, spectacular action and elaborate, creative FX composition, and plot over character as usual. Some really impressive action and miniature work, and a story that was mostly fighting between giants with a few plot points. Apparently Ignis became Trigger Dark because he wants revenge on Hudram for destroying his planet, I guess. Your standard urami motive, a grudge or vendetta. Though why he keeps attacking Trigger (Kengo Edition) is unclear. Meanwhile, Yuna's trying to summon her magic Yuzare powers and can't manage it. And really not much else happened beyond a big monster evolving into an even bigger monster for a cliffhanger.

Appeared to me that Ignis isn't fully in control, and the original Dark Trigger's personality comes through.

Oh, so it's sort of like a Kamen Rider Berserker Form. Or the Hulk.

I just had a thought yesterday -- there have been a few Ultraman Ace episodes where Hokuto spontaneously transforms when he would otherwise have been knocked out or killed, like Go in Return of Ultraman tended to do, rather than by consciously choosing to transform as usual. And it occurred to me that it would be an interesting twist if there were an Ultra host who didn't know he was one. He'd just think he kept getting knocked out in the battle and missed it when Ultraman showed up. I don't suppose they've ever actually done that, have they?

That's how I interpreted the moment when he transformed back at the beginning and said he'd learn to control it.

Not that I'm aware of. Maybe in one of the mangas or light novels, but I don't think they ever did that in a TV show or movie.

In episode #17 of "Ultraman", a famous scientist and his strange meteorite disappear, turning Arashi and Ide into the worst detective duo:

So just from reading opinions about Trigger I'm seeing that some aren't really warming up to it?

Labelling it as "New Generation Tiga" was a mistake. It brings with it very high expectations and pressure. It doesn't help when they are blatantly just baking on the Tiga name.

Tiga has been regarded as the series that brought back the Ultraman boom in the 90's and now with a series trying to replicate that in the Reiwa period? it's definitely big shoes to fill.

The action and special effects are top-notch, as you'd expect from Koichi Sakamoto. The stories are okay too, not too dissimilar from the storytelling in Sentai or KR these days. The problem is that the characterizations are one-dimensional. A few characters have arcs, but the main character has little personality beyond a couple of incessantly repeated catchphrases, and the supporting cast beyond the core threesome is just a set of caricatures.

Its not really a bad show in my opinion, but I really just don't care about the characters. Kengo is a nothing character, he's just a catch phrase and an upbeat attitude. The rest are just completely stock characters, there isn't much to keep my attention. Its nowhere near as bad as Ginga in that regard (at least I don't actively hate any of the characters, while in Ginga all the characters were boring and I hated them). I can't compare it to Tiga, since I haven't watched it yet, but on its own Trigger is a bland, but inoffensive, show. Its not bad to the point I'd stop watching, but I'll almost certainly forget most of it quickly once its over.

And the saga of the missing subtitles continues. Episode #23 of "Mirrorman" once again promised English subtitles even in the video title, but failed to deliver them:

At least I found something of a synopsis on the Ultra-Wiki article on the monster Androsaurus:

Androsaurus was a monster who lives on Saturn. One day, the invaders stole her egg in an attempt to lure her to earth to cause destruction to the planet. Their spaceship was attacked by Androsaurus and the egg fell to earth as a meteorite. It was discovered and examined by the SGM. But the egg began to glow suddenly. It was a telepathy call from the Androsaurus's mother. It told the egg that the Androsaurus mother will arrive at the Earth. When it arrived, the guards attacked caused it to start a rampage. Kyotaro transformed into Mirrorman and fought Androsaurus. However, Mirrorman did not know the purpose of Androsaurus was to retrieve the meteorite (her egg). Once Androsaurus had her egg back, she proceeded to fly back to Saturn. However, the invaders arrived to attack her. Mirrorman used the Silver Cross to destroy the ship. Androsaurus then returned back to Saturn with her egg.

Yeah, I've found that sometimes the only way to get an episode synopsis on the Ultra Wiki is to go to the page for the featured kaiju. It's weird that the Ultra Wiki is a lot less complete than the Kamen Rider or RangerWiki, given that more Ultraman series have been available in the west over the decades.

This week's episode #18 of "Ultraman" shares a title with one of Joe Morton's early hits and also was the Ultra series first foray into the evil doppelganger genre, which turned into a tradition in following Ultra series and movies:
