Stay-at-Home Thread

I don't think I have ever been there. I've been along hwy 20-Abiline/Midland ish, because my Dad's family are from there--but I've rather made a point of not going out there if I can help it. San Angelo is supposed to a have nice state park, though.

Safe driving!

It was a gorgeous drive. Lot of firewhells. It looked like the bluebonnets weren't having a good year.

I was taken back by how lax lot of folks were concerning masks and social distancing. I couldn't wait to get back to Austin

@rhubarbodendron , I bet you're delighted at today's news of zoos (as well as museums, playgrounds, and other public places) reopening soon in Germany.
really? I hadn't heard of that. Cool :) Then I can visit my adopted Short-Eared Elephant Shrews. (in my opinion these animals prove that evolution has a sense of humour)
But I think I rather wait a few weeks till the first onslaught of visitors is over.

my sister sent me a link to the sewing machine manufacturer Singer. On their HongKong website they have 2 sewing patterns for face masks that have a better fit than most sewing patterns I've found so far.
Mask #1 is at https://en.singer.com.hk/blogs/sewing-projects/how-to-make-face-mask
Mask #2 is at https://en.singer.com.hk/blogs/sewing-projects/another-way-to-make-a-face-mask
Pattern 2 is a medium adult size if you print it in A4-format (letter format). I haven't tried pattern #1 yet.

Pattern 2 is made of only 2 parts with 2 darts each for nose and chin. One tip that Singer forgot to mention: in step 5, cut the edges of the cloth several times before sewing down the seams. The rounded middle seam is much easier to sew then and you don't get that many folds. The triple stitch is indeed better than a single one. I've tried both and the machine takes the rounded/bent shape much better with the triple stitch.
I didn't sew a tunnel for the nose wire on top but simply made a double seam at the top into which I insert the wire. It makes a better fit for those of us who wear glasses.

Now everyone has to wear masks at work during the time spent in the corridors. We created "one-way-streets", single tables for the clients and a maximum number of people occupying a room at the same time. We are allowed to take off the mask in our office, though.

at my office they put up notes today that only one person at a time may use the elevator. LOL it took them only 8 weeks to have this epiphany.
We have no mask duty in the corridors as ours are 2 m wide. But we're closed for public except for people who made an appointment by phone or email.

It seems to be Murphy day at the office, though: the sewer broke so that we are without toilets. The sinks in the labs go into a tank but that one's pretty full already. In addition, the coffee machine broke and the plotter is malfunctioning. Obviousely, not only all good things come in threes :D
I'm looking forward to tomorrow (home office day).

Seems to me that if you've no toilet and washing facilities, or even coffee facilities, you should be sent home

Elevator restrictions have been in effect since April at my place of work. The mask requirement in the office only started April 22 in compliance with county regulations when the public mask requirement started. For those of us reporting to the building, we have to complete a symptoms screening checklist every day.

My sister who works as a case manager nurse and her colleagues in a local hospital are getting lots of love from various donors: sports teams and businesses have been showering them with Starbucks coffees, sandwiches, Thai food, desserts, etc.

^a recent statistics says that during corona alarm people gain weight. That'd explain it at least for the medical professions ;)

At my office, masks are only required if we go on a business trip together. We try to use one car each, but with only a very limited number of vehicles that's difficult.
At the office itself, we try to keep at a distance. Yesterday, a roundmail came saying that those who share offices and can't keepo the minimum distance as the rooms are too small should report to the administration. As there are a lot of colleagues constantly working from home, the rameining ones can get spread all over the building.
But again: this should have been done weeks ago.

how terrible :( On the other hand: 17 is a very high age and Spider had a very good life with you.
Are you going to get a new cat, @Miss Chicken ? If I recall correctly, you get yours mostly from shelters and I magine that those are closed atm in your country, too.

We do have another cat, Georgy, who is 15 years old and in reasonable health. After Georgie goes I will not get any more pets. If I got a new kitten we would be quite elderly together and I might not outlive it. I also could not afford expenses like I have had to to pay out for Spider. In the last 4 years I have had $3000 in vet bills and about $5000 in other expenses (insulin, medicine for his hyperthyroidism, glucose testing strips, syringes, strips to test for ketones, special diabetic food).

Anyone else feel that way too?

I've seen a lot of people talking about this online, and articles discussing it, so it certainly seems to be a wide-spread phenomenon.

Speaking just for myself, though... no, I haven't been experiencing it. But I think that is just because I have been fortunate enough to be able to retain my job, for now at least, so I am distinctly aware of which day it is. If I wasn't working, then admittedly, it might be a different story.
