State Sponsered Star Trek as a National Cultural Institutio

It occurs to me tat Trek could be financed by government donations, given to some art academy to pass on to Hollywood,as Trek has spread USA culture all over the world, and generated billions, therefore by recognizing it as state institution, financing it from government funds would, remove any uncertainty and allow it to continue indefinitely as well as allowing exports of American culture to the back woods of the planet, thus promoting democracy, liberty and freedom with tolerance for alien values.

This would allow America to eventually democratize and educate the planet by the back door without expensive wars like the Irak war which has swallowed $500 billion, without any end in sight.

By making it a national institution like the Eiffel tower or the pyramids, you would more, than recoup the initial financial outlay.

Great idea. You should email your post to all the presidential candidates' websites.

Re: State Sponsered Star Trek as a National Cultural Instit

Government financing of Star Trek is an even surer way to kill it than turning it back over to Berman & Braga. ;)

This would be like giving the car keys to a drunk teenager.

Have you not heard of the National Academy for Arts and Sciences?
They exist to fund things like ballet, theatre, dance, drama and film.I wanted it extended to Trek.I hope this explains it.

Or a drunk congressman...

govt. funded Trek? Nope, nope, nope. Taxpayers should not be paying to subsidize a TV show. How about we take that money and create a national-healthcare plan for children, or fund better schools.

yeah, what do they think this is? england?

Always did think the Brits were getting screwed on that deal  Always viewed it as a waste of tax-payer dollars. Then again, I one of the few people that thinks things like Public Television and Public-Radio shouldn't be receiving funding the US.

By that logic, Baywatch should be revived with government funding. It was viewed regularly around the world, in more countries and in more languages, than any other American TV show in history, and no doubt helped to spread American culture and values.

(Granted, those values included things like "big breasts=good," "you should get breast implants," "women should wear skimpy clothes," and "women exist to sexually please men," but, still! Values! Spread!)

That stuff is the stuff we're supposed to like but let's face it, we don't. :rommie: If we did, it wouldn't need a subsidy. When something appears on PBS, it's an admission of failure - can't survive on its own in a free market.

Star Trek is certainly hardier than that! I have faith in its ability to come roarin' back into at least some level of self-supporting pop culture awareness (keeping in mind the general level of balkanization in pop culture overall.)

Yep, caught him red-handed. :D

So I'm not the only one who noticed that.

Hoist by one's own petard, as it were.

Re: State Sponsered Star Trek as a National Cultural Instit

I knew tri was hinky, but I just thought Uptightgirl was an irritant. It wasn't until "she" exposed "herself" that I put it together.

I think it'll be good to close this now :)
