State of TOS characters in current Trek book timeline

I was curious about this today, after discussions on previous posts. According to the current timeline of Trek novels, the story being told right now, what are the status of the TOS characters? I know that Kirk is alive in the Shatnerverse, but still dead in the main thread of novels right? Obviously Spock is around (at least for four more years ;)) and IfM deal with Scotty. But are the others referenced being still kicking? I never read the Vulcan's Soul trilogy (I think that was the name?) and am not sure if that is part of the current timeline thread. I remember hearing about it and thinking how unrealistic that ALL of them were still around.

I think the most recent appearances of Uhura and Chekov was in the Vulcan's Soul trilogy, I believe. As far as I know they haven't been mentioned in anything set after the VS trilogy setting of 2377.
Nobody knows what became of Sulu. According to Memory Beta, the latest reference was to his still being a Captain in 2320. It does say there was a character in the DS9 Day of Honor book who it hinted might be an elderly Sulu, but it wasn't confirmed in the book if it he was or not.

Sulu's fate seems to be an important lingering thread in the Lit-verse continuity right now. I'd love to see a resolution there.

I've never read "A Singular Destiny", but is it true that McCoy is in that?

If so, he's still alive, per Crossover and the Shatverse.

About Sulu, I loved the idea, from one of the Shatner books, that we went on to become a bestselling author (of his memoirs, IIRC) and then President of the Federation. I'd love that integrated into the mainline continuity.

Also in the book I think says he's Head of Starfleet Command, which he is on the audio intro to that brilliant looking new Federation book.

The character's later lives are of great interest to me - Spock off course lived ro a very old age; McCoy would continue in stories with him and Scotty in the books - going right through the Dominion War and out the other side.

Chekov and Uhura were featured as Admirals in the Vulcan's Soul books, alongside Saavik, who of course was a Captain. These too were set after the War.

As for Captain Kirk, he was resurrected in the Shatner books and was left as Captain of a small vessel called the Belle Reve. I am obsessed by the idea of Kirk in the 24th Century, since first hearing about the books I was interested. To me, the Shatnerverse is the 3rd Chapter of Kirk, 1 and 2 being the TV Series and the Movies, but my favourite version of events is this:

It's really a full story with a beginning, middle and an end, I'd love to take at least the first half, cas a load of Movie Era lookalikes and do a fanfilm mini series called STAR TREK: LATER VOYAGES

Yes it's very fannish imagining Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty roaming around in the 24th Century, but I love the idea of them being around to beam up with the crews of the Enterprise-E, DS9 and Voyager in between having their own adventures. And surely you can reconcile the ending with Countdown/Trek XI somehow, with Spock going off here and there for Ambassadorial duties.

McCoy and Scotty were together in one of the Dominon War anthology stories.

What are the possible fates of Sulu? I don't believe I'm familiar with them.

It's been a while since I've read "Captain's Glory", but didn't that end with Kirk basically living like Obi-Wan Kenobi? (As in, a hermit on some far-out planet).

Memory Beta says:

"Sulu remained Captain of the Excelsior until at least the year 2320. Both he and his daughter - carriers of the prestigious rank - sponsored a young Chakotay's entrance to Starfleet Academy. (TOS novel: Burning Dreams, VOY episode: "Tattoo", ST novel: Tales from the Captain's Table)

"Sulu eventually gained the rank of Commodore. TNG novel: Q-Squared)

"After retiring from Starfleet in the first half of the 24th century, Sulu ran for public office and eventually was elected as President of the United Federation of Planets, serving three terms. (ST novel: The Return)

"In 2372, the USS Defiant was assigned to rescue the shipwrecked crew of the science vessel Victoria Adams--in particular, an unidentified Federation VIP observer who 'must not fall into the hands of the Klingon High Council at any cost.' During the mission, Julian Bashir encountered among the survivors an elderly Asian man calling himself 'George' whom the doctor suspected to be that figure. Their conversations strongly implied that 'George' was actually an incognito Hikaru Sulu." (DS9 novel: Armageddon Sky)

Thanks Therin. Guess I should have checked mem Beta before asking.

If that is the history of Sulu, I don't see there being much more to be said. He had a long career in Starfleet, retired to enter government service, then probably died later in life due to things relating to old age.

Well that is the point if that is what happened all I wan't is for it to be said.

No - it ends with him as Captain of the Belle Reve, with the adventures continuing with Ambassador Spock, Admiral McCoy and Captain Scott by his side.

PERFECT.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

Do you mean you want to know if this is confirmed in the current novel canon?

Sorry but yes that is what I'd like to know.

Guess I have to reread Armageddon Sky. Don't remember that at all.

Sulu's fate is not explicitly established in the main novel continuity.
The one thing we do know is he was never President like The Return said. We got what I believe was a complete list of UFP Presidents in Articles of the Federation, and Sulu wasn't on it. This was most likely because The Return is a Shatnerverse novel, and those are treated as a separate continuity from the main Novelverse.

No, the list of UFP presidents in AotF is far from comprehensive, only listing 14 presidents in all. It's only a continuous list as far back as Amitra (2364-8), and possibly T'Pragh given that the Tzenkethi War (during which she was president) seems to have been in the early 2360s. But Thelian is the only president listed between Ra-ghoratreii in the 2290s and T'Pragh seven decades later.

I remember the Haynes guide to the Enterprise mentioning that the Enterprise B disappeared and is presumed lost with all hands after it picked up an unknown infection. It would be nice to see the fate of the B cleared up.
