StarTrek08.com ?

ViveLaFrance

Ensign
Red Shirt
I went to startrek08.com and they say the page is under construction and is coming soon.

Maybe it will be the Trek XI promotionnal site ?

No it's not, I know what the new site is and that's not it. I accually own startrek2008.com (among several others) and passed up getting startrek08.com several months ago because startrek2008.com was more definitive IMO. Someone just registered that domain yesterday at NS, probably motivated by reading PTM's article yesterday at trekmovie.com. As for the new offcial site, they have had it for about 3 weeks now. You will have wait till it comes out to find out what it is, needless to say it may not be what your thinking the name would be.

The official site will just be www.startrek.com, most probably the front page will be replaced with a splash page with teaser trailer links, then at the bottom a link to enter the normal site. Thats my guess at least.

Possibly, but will a CBS owned website promote a Paramount movie?

Probably depends on what the arrangement regarding the franchise is between the 2 companies.

The CBS owned Startrek.com site will link to the new site, the new site will not be run by CBS, it will be run by Viacom. CBS currently owns at least 67 star trek related domain names, none of which will be JJ's movie site.

They are one company. CBS and Viacom are the parent companies. They own Paramount.

Yes two seperate companies each owning different parts of Paramount. It is rather a complex arrangement.

Paula Block, of CBS Consumer Products, has already said that her division will be responsible for vetting all licensed material for JJ Abrams' movie for Paramount. So these sharing arrangements are possible, and clearly mapped out well in advance.

When the movie was announced the same thing was done, they replaced the front page with a splash page featuring the teaser poster.

startrek2008sucks.com is available. Hmm.

chrispineisnotkirk.com is also available. Cmon people! I'm dissapointed!

God, if Trekheads can't at least get up the gumption to launch a negative campaign on a par with the anti-Craig-as-Bond folks they are truly headed for extinction.

Cool! :D See, Trekkies DO have some team spirit.

An anti-Chris Pine rant site practically writes itself. Maybe I'll go the Langutron route and create my own BBS that only I can register for, and then berate everyone else for being too "cowardly" to argue with me.

I laughed out loud at your post, Temis, but who is Langutron? Sounds like that is an amusing story in of itself.

^^^
Apparently, the was actually a guy known as Langutron who did, indeed, do as Temis the Vorta describes. I kid you not.

Found it:

Wow. I remember reading some of this guy's posts when Ron Moore's BSG started. Seemed a little off the deep end then, but...wow.

And when I just looked at the start page for his one-man forum, the banner ad was for "Waterproof Underwear - Stainproof cotton, looks like reg, absorbs 15 oz. (Ads by Google)." Makes me wonder what kind of demographics his site is pulling down.

That's neither here nor there, of course....
