Starship Sir John Graves Simcoe

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
Here is a model of an Excelsior Class kit bash.

The new science exploration vessel commissioned into the United Federation of Planets’ Starfleet is modelled heavily on the Excelsior Class space frame. The Sir John Graves Simcoe Class is primarily a science exploration mission vessel comprising of a crew of 425, and on her maiden mission, 22 civilian scientists, and 34 passengers.

She is outfitted with experimental warp nacelles that each contain their own M/AR warp reactors. Further ship energy resources include 3 reactors located in the secondary hull, impulse reactor in the primary hull, and multiple emergency back-up batteries throughout the ship. This technology is based heavily on the old Constitution Class power system. Starfleets R&D bureau is continuing to experiment with centralized m/arc to power ship systems, as well as multiple systems.

Commissioned in 2295, USS Sir John Graves Simcoe has been dispatched for a 1.5 year mission explore and chart 3 newly discovered systems on the outer rim of the Federation.

That actually looks really good. The only thing that looks odd, are the ncelles... they look a bit too new or organic to really mesh well with the rest of the ship. But it's a great start!

Good work!

I like how the antimatter is stored in the nacelles; it would seem a whole lot safer to keep it well away from the rest of the ship.

I'm curious about the nacelles too, are those marker pens?

Thanks!

The nacelles are highlighters that I gutted. I selected those particular highlighters primarily because of the scale. I needed something that would look balanced on the rest of the ship.

Though I agree a little with BolianAdmiral about the organic shape perhaps being too pronounced, I needed something with features built into them to suggest warp nacelles. The larger forward hump of the highlighter that allowed me to justify throwing the m/arc's in each one.

Ever since I read how the Cheyenne model was built, using markers as nacelles, I wanted to do the same. I actually posted the initial construction pictures back around Christmas I think... I just never got around to completing (most of it) until now. There are some details that obviously still need to get on her.

Though the pictures don't show it, the ship also has a coulpe of small observation areas on either side of the impulse engines.

I'm presently working on the cross section. It should be up today.

Thanks Forbin.

And here's the cuttaway. There are 3 main reactors that power the ship systems overall. There are 2 impulse reactors linked to the impulse deflection housing- (something like a hyper pulse capacitor (made up stuff)). All the power systems are linked for emergency re-routing, including power to and from the warp nacelles. Of course, power is fed to battery trickle chargers throughout the ship.

Below the 3 main reactors is a type of fuel injection system. Below that is the immediate fuel storage that is linked to the main fuel storage tanks located in the red parts of the ship. Fuel transfer is also linked throughout the ship for emergency purposes.

The little brown boxes along the PTC routes, are Power Transfer Stations... They should be a little more complex then they look :)

On a side note, I just saw the new movie again (and though I'm still not a huge fan of a tonne of stuff from it- it's a fun movie), and noted that Pike ordered power to be transfered from the Port Nacelle to the shields...
