How about this: just 3 nights ago, my imagination flashed me an image of 3/4 front view of a small spacecraft in perfect detail.. and I was able to rotate that view in all directions and the details filled in with each turn...

Ever have that happen?

I may have been hitting the Elmer's too much again tonight.

I had this idea for another ship scrambling the roles of our traditional parts.

What I'm thinking is this...

Wait for it...

It's totally nuts and probably unworkable...

But the SAUCER... the ENTIRE thing... is a warp nacelle.

The engineering hull becomes the primary hull again with the bridge and all that.

And what to DO with the two tubes that would ordinarily be the warp nacelles? I don't know...but maybe let them be twin shuttle hangar deck pods.

An entire hull that is a nacelle is likely how any 'real' warp ship will look like. The ringship is just that I suppose. Imagine a klein bottle, but have nothing "outside" the shell

Imagine a ramscoop starship inside that 'klein bottle' or something like it, with a football shaped grid-mesh attached to the fore-scoop bulging out midships, then tapering teardrop like to merge with the aft 'exhaust', and a field effect that follows.

Call it a "space eater."

That's what the doomsday machine was anyway...kinda.
