Starship Models

Hi,

Sorry for this being my first post on the boards here, but I have a simple question that has been driving me nuts!

With the release of the latest Trek movie I have refound my interest in the Trek Universe. (yes I know how badwagonish)

As such I travelled to my parents house and went into their attic and dug my old stuff. I have the original Playmates Enterprise D, Warbird, BattleCruiser, Enterprise-B and bought the latest movie Enterprise. I also bought a very simple 'snapping' model of the NX Enterprise.

HOWEVER, the Enterprise-B is extremely yellowed and gross looking. And I am not so awesome even at simple 'kids' snap and decal models. lol As it looks like a dying warthog put it together. lol

I would like to get a model of each genetation Enterprise... NX,*,A,B,C,D and E and as many other starships, ie Voyager, Defiant, Reliant, Nebulia class, 'transwarpping' Gaxely class 'dreadnaught' etc etc etc... as there are out there. All in as close to the same scale as possible.

I have been crusing through eBay and Amazon to find them. Some are CRAZY expensive and others I just can't figure out what scale they are. I would not mind getting them in the 'Playmates' plastic or even some die cast ones as long as they are in the similar scale. Also I would not mind getting them in the real model kits, granted I will need some time to get better at them first or as I get them. lol But the 'easy' route for the first few ould be cool too. :)

Any help, websites, classifieds etc you can can give is much apprciated!!!

Thanks!
John

also... Where can I find an extra base for and Enterprse-D playmates ship? I picked up a decalless one at a garage scale and would like to give it my own designations but do not have a base for it to 'stand on.'

Greetings John. The name is Sam, but you may call me Miraclefan. I can try to help as best I can. ROUND2 has 1/1000 Scale versions of the NX, 1701, & in december the 1701-A! If you want them smaller (2500) go to ebay, type f-toys star trek. And you should come across the NX,1701,1701 Refit, And if you can aford them the 1/2500 scale amt(later polar lights) enterprise sets. Hope that helps. Also I would go hear, www.culttvmanshop.com www.federationmodels.com www.megahobby.com www.bigbadtoystore.com the last one is for the old playmates & Art asylum ships, hope that helps.

Thanks guys!

I will check them out.

What is the scale of the plastic 'playmates' models?

Also is there is a site site or 'classified' sections that sells old or 'used' models like this plastic ones with the lights and sounds?

Thanks!

No Prob! :techman: Glad to help. Can't help you there with the playmates toys sorry, all I know is that they are NOT to scale with each other. And if your looking for 'classified' sections, the only place I can think of is www.hobbytalk.com they have a ''swap''N''sell'' section.

All the sites listed by the other members are great. I frequent them all. I especially like Cult TV Man's Hobbyshop. It's a fun, informative place to browse around. :)

hhhmmm interesting, good thing I am not using my CC right now. lol

And I didn't know the playmates weren't to scale, but I still like them as the were cheap and as I said I am not so good at the do it yourself kits any more.

You might also try looking in some smaller, local hobby shops. You might be surprised what you come across in places like that. Older, mom and pop toy stores might have some kits. I'm partial to ebay, but you have to be careful with what some of those guys will try to charge for stuff.

I've been to a couple of them and found squat. :(
With the new film a lot of hobby shops have been having runs from what I've been told. I stopped in a local hobby shop recently that has had pretty much the same Trek models for about 5+ years. Trek XI came out and now they have none.

I had a similar experience here. Our local hobby shop had several Star Trek models in stock so long that they had a thick layer of dust on the boxes. I went in last weekend to look around and they were all gone. Whether one loves or hates the new movie, no one can deny that it has generated a level of interest that hasn't been seen for a long time. :)

Last week I noticed that the Star Trek section of the toy isle in WalMart is almost as big as the Star Wars section. Not sure that has ever happened before.

I also noticed that the models etc on Amazon and eBay have doubled or more in price recently. I think I may just wait till the 'buzz' dies off and I can find some cooling off 'deals.'

Yes, Polar Lights will be doing the re-prise as a 1/2500 scale model kit, which will be about a foot long.

To answer NIUPonyBoy's question...

All the Enterprises exist in the same scale in one form or another, but not everything is still in production at the moment.

AMT/Ertl long ago released two 3-ship sets in 1/2500 scale. Kit one included the 1701, 1701-A, and 1701-D. The second set included the B, C and E. This was before Enterprise, so the NX wasn't included. A couple of garage kitters came out with 1/2500 NXs in resin later.

Ertl's 1/1400 scale line included the 1701-D, 1701-C, and 1701-E. The E has recently been reissued, so it should be in stores as we speak. The other two, you'll have to hit ebay and flea markets for now. The rest of the Enterprises have been made in this scale by Starcrafts, in resin, and are available at www.federationmodels.com. I'm fairly sure there's a 1/1400 NX-01 out there somewhere too. I know PNT Models made one. So you CAN get the whole shebang in 1/1400 with some effort.

The new hotness is 1/1000 scale, which Polar Lights inaugurated with their TOS Enterprise snap-kit. Well, technically, Ertl started it, because their 1701-B and Excelsior kits are 1/1000. But the line was interrupted when PL went out of business for 5 years. So, so far you can only get the NX-01, 1701, Excelsior and 1701-B in 1/1000 plastic kits. But the garage industry is plugging along with 1/1000 kits resin - there are two available of the 1701-A so far (see federation models again) (or the starshipmodeler.com store).

Plus there's a crapload of 1/2500, 1/1000 and 1/1400 resin kits of secondary ships like the Stargazer, and fan ships like the Abbe.
