"Starship Mine" made me giggle!

Johnny

Commander
Red Shirt
Tim Russ is in Starship Mine. You see him just before the credits and then later Picard nearly removes his arm and takes him out with a Vulcan neck pinch...oh the irony!

He's almost a Jeffrey Combs type actor. Anyone seen him anywhere else trek? I know he's in Generations.

Yeah he played a Klingon in DS9's Invasive Procedures, I think was the name of that ep.

Except Jeff Combs could hide under his makeup and disappear somewhat easier (not a bad thing).

Tim Russ played 3 different characters in a universe of makeup and aliens. What distinguished him from all of his characters (Except for the Klingon, forgot about him)?

Ear makeup.

(At the very least, they should have made him Vulcan in Generations. Didn't even have to call him Tuvok! Would have made sense, more or less, too.)

^Yea except it was a different ship and it would have been after Tuvok left Starfleet.

Was Tim Russ even cast as Tuvok when he did his bit part in Generations? I can't recall dates off the top of my head, so I don't know when Voyager's casting was completed.

Generations came out in 1994. So Tim Russ would have been cast before they started casting for Voyager.

He was also up for the part of Geordi but they gave the role to LeVar Burton instead so I guess they might've felt like the owed it to him in a way.

When did Voyager start filming? Wasn't it airing by January 1995? Seems like there could have been some overlap. Hmmm... then again, maybe not. But they should have KNOWN! :p

And since Tuvok's backstory was yet to be firmly established, there was plenty of time to wiggle his short tenure onto the Ent B in his history.

I find it really wierd when he plays a human, unless he's under pressure, because he has a vulnerability about him which I don't think we see. It's a kind of confusion look he has about him sometimes. At least while he's tuvok he always look like he's thinking.

Also in Starship Mine was the lovely Pat Tallman, ambassador-behind-the-scenes between Trek and Babylon 5. Pat was often on both B5 as Lyta, and on a Trek show as an extra or stunt person. I know she doubled for Kira, and did Kai Winn's fall into the pit.

Yeah i was doing a double take when i saw this guy...Russ as T'Kar.

And it was always cool to see Pat Tallman in all of her roles on trek,as stunt characters or stunt doubles. Some good info about her on Memory Alpha.Marie Marshall was also a guest star on Babylon 5.Cool episode overall.

There wouldn't have been much chance for overlap. Production for Generations started pretty quick after the All Good Things, which would have been Spring, since Voyager was to premiere in the mid season, production wouldn't have gotten going until september/october.

I had no idea he was going up for Geordi. Hind sight says I prefer LeVar, do you think he would have done a good job as the loveable loser that Geordi sometimes was?

I think LeVar was perfect for the role. I could always tell when things were bad, because he showed it on his face! I got the impression he loved that engine. :)
