I’m starting to think the Enterprise E will be the ship being retired and the promo with the F is misleading. After the Starfleet Museum I just can’t see them saying oh this happened offscreen to a ship Picard has history with. I think the Galaxy class lifespan was just in the TNG tech manual.
It's been stated in the episode, on news stories and displays, that the "Enterprise-F" is slated for early decomissioning. It's not a promo, it says it specifically in S3E1 and again in "The Imposters" in Ro's files.
It's not a matter of the VIEWER ignoring it. It's the writers. Chrissakes, do we fucking have to keep coming up with examples? Because some things simply deserve to get tossed out on their ass. Like this one. And Liam Shaw sure as hell mourned his crewmates on the Constance...
This probably sounds very clear to you. Now, at the risk of sounding very dense, how does one determine what doesn't and doesn't deserve it? Because, if we do that, then, as Tuskin alludes, why are we clinging on to this Season because of all the fan service? Shouldn't have all been tossed out the way TOS was by Roddenberry with TMP?
Common sense. Like Captain Pike in TOS having a problem with women on the bridge. You don't think THAT deserved to get cut?
Its been established we've been baited using a clever raise of sarcasm. The point being that we can scrub things from canon if we want for story sake
Seriously? Who determines common sense? Respectfully, why put the fuss on canon then? We've been spending the past 6 weeks fawning over this season because of the fan service and now it can be tossed aside? This is why I struggle with Trek opinions at times. It reminds me of the old obscenity laws; "I can't define but but I know it when I see it." Now, I'm no longer sarcastic; I'm just confused. But when they do it it's wrong and disrespectful unless it's the right kind of discarding then it's totally fine...
TOS has the Connie I TMP the Connie II PIC the Connie III which makes the Discoprise a Connie 0 (Or is the Cage one a 0 and the Discoprise a Connie -1? )
Boy, serial contrarians can really derail a thread topic, you know? I haven’t seen this much back-and-forth ‘I’m right! No, I’m right!’ nonsense since before Timo got banned. Starship design in Star Trek: Picard, remember?
Seems like it would have been smart of them to spread their starship construction resources across the ENTIRE HUGE VAST FEDERATION!...
Well, I don’t think that explanation was never actually mentioned in the show (not that it really makes much sense anyway.) But what was mentioned was that all current Federation starships are networked together, implying that older vessel classes from the Akira back through to the TOS/TMP era are no longer in service (if the ‘relics’ Shaw refers to in the museum are any indication), and that those decommissioned ships could be used as raw material for new ships. Of course with replicator technology this would logically not matter.
I would agree but those shipyards might be specialized. And I still hold on to the very simply theory that it's not just the shipyards but the loss of work force and personnel with training and knowledge through the Dominion War and the Synth attack that would have cost them a lot of personnel. Knowledge and capable personnel is just as important as materials and shipyards. It's not just one piece that fell.
The only "old" class we've seen so far is the Sovereigns and Akiras I think (In S2). I'm not sure we've even seen any of the Galaxy class, just the Galaxy class-ish Ross class.
The title of the recent Trekyards video about the Enterprise-A 'Terry brought sexy back' made me want to vomit
